Trying to figure out the appropriate power for the tailgate. Looking into batteries vs generator.

If I were running only the TV off of deep cycle batteries what type of life would I be looking at? What size inverter? How many batteries? Battery life?

Any pros to using batteries vs generator?

A deep cycle battery and a 2000w inverter will do a lot of stuff at a tailgate. A 400W inverter will power a TV and DTV system.

I've never used a generator. Just batteries until they die.

Lookat the amp hours on the battery and the amp hours the tv uses.

Im waiting on the final design of our portable solar generator to tailgate with.

3 panels
3kw power
2 batteries

would run tv, icebox, a/c, radio, lights

I would love one, but the damn things are $1200.

Just thinking if I could runt he TV on a couple batteries and an inverter it would be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Depends on the power wattage of the tv. I've run a 20" LCD tv off of a marine battery for 13 hours each time for 5 years.
