Which series had the better finale? The Office - US or The Office - BBC

Question for anyone who has watched both series.

The BBC finale was fantastic until the last 2 minutes. It would have been perfect if it ended 2 minutes early.

Due to the length of the shows, I'm not so sure they can be compared.

Have you watched both?

They can absolutely be compared. Who ended up with the job running the company? Did Michael/david live happily ever after? Did the endings fit the characters and the overall show?

For me it's the BBC version. I think the US version overstayed it's welcome especially after Michael left.

I don't know, but NBC and everyone did a very good job hiding Michael Scott's return. That's for damn sure!

I'm gonna go with the US show simply because of his cameo to make the finale.

I've never seen the British Office, but the US Office's finale was fricking fantastic. It was basically the perfect sendoff for the show and its characters. The way they tied it into being a real documentary was great, the characters each getting their own sort of sendoff was great, Michael returning was great, etc. And it was cool the way they did it six months later at Dwight and Angela's wedding so we could get updates on everyone and see what they were up to post-doc-airing.

Dawn came back. Is she would have left and the last scene been with David taking the picture and all that. Perfection.

How is the British version? The Office is one of my favorite shows ever, and I've thought about trying the British version, but didn't know how easy/hard it would be to watch in terms of the accents and picking up on the humor (especially certain sayings or words that we aren't familiar with).

I believe it's only a few seasons, right? So if I picked it up, it wouldn't take too long to get through. And I do like Ricky Gervais.

I think the UK Christmas Special was a perfect finale for that series. The ending may be a different tone than the series typically followed, but I found it effectively emotional and cathartic to watch. I also really dug the arc of David Brent and to follow up with him after the doc was released was perfect.

The US finale was outstanding as well; I think my opinion is just tempered by the fact that I hated the last two seasons. I think the finale showed, clearly, that Dwight would have been the better choice to run the branch. Between his actions in the finale and in that post-Michael, post-Will Ferrel episode where he's put in charge (with the gun), the show had a far more entertaining vibe when he was running DM. Basically, the US Office finale had far more going against it (Pam being completely ruined, Jim too for that matter; Andy becoming a horrible drag on the show) than the UK finale but still turned out a memorable, funny finish to the show.

It's twelve episodes and one special - total. Very easy, funny, and quick watch.

Michael Scott was a lovable oaf who you learned to cheer for and his employees eventually rallied around. Awkward and goofy but with a good heart.

The BBC Office is a different type of humor. It seems that in America we have to like the characters and the jokes are driven by what they say. In British humor the characters are often not likeable and the humor comes from situations and reactions if that makes any sense. But Ricky Gervais is great. He's awkward and everyone reacts the way you think they would. I loved it.

If you like British humor, like Peep Show, you'll like the show. And it's only 2 seasons, so not too much of a commitment.

Yeah, the clips I've seen of the British Office, I've enjoyed well enough (though it was hard not knowing about the characters and whatnot).

Damn, that's even shorter than I thought. How long are the episodes?

30 mins. Regular TV time.

The main characters are the same just with different names.

Tim-Jim
Dawn-Pam
Garreth-Dwight
Michael Scott-David Brent

i don't know if the UK finale was "better" per se, but it was definitely "more appropriate" than the US finale. at that point in time, the UK show ended the way it should've.

if the UK finale was too jarring for some, the christmas special was awesome redemption....it goes out on a high note, but at the same time, you get the impression that david brent can still find a way to blow it shortly afterward, lol...

The only time in the show i felt like i couldnt understand something is their version of Todd F Packer. You should have no problem the rest of the show.

the UK episodes are "legit" 30 minute eps 'tho, as opposed to the 30 minutes of the US version which included commercials. for pacing reasons, i do think the US version suffered from the shortened episode length....many of the deleted scenes on the DVDs are testament to that IMO.

if you can watch the UK version with subtitles, do it. while the dialogue is mostly understandable without 'em, often the characters speak in more hushed tones than the US version, and the subtitles definitely help with that IMO....

One thing I learned that some Office fans may not know, is that according to the shows producers all of the deleted scenes of The Office are still considered canon and do have jokes that pay off in scenes that are still in the show and vice versa.
