Get up early...especially on the West Coast.

Workers at Croke Park were busy Friday morning putting the final touches on what is essentially a Gaelic football field.

A game spokesman said Friday the PSU-UCF crowd is expected to be more than 50,000, with 16,000 fans coming from the U.S. (an estimated 14,500 are PSU fans). Capacity for this game was set at approximately 70,000 fans.

Connections to Ireland are sparse. O’Leary’s grandfather was born in Cork, which is also the hometown of the Knights’ kicker, Sean Galvin. Penn State coach James Franklin’s parents were married in Ireland.

Nor do the locals know much about American football, but controversy aside O’Leary said he expected there to be a lot of interest at a stadium that will swallow up the American 100-yard field, even though its 82,300 capacity lags a little behind Penn State’s cavernous, 107,282-holding home.

“I think the Irish will be at the game,” he said. “I would assume they’d root for Galvin. And probably the name O’Leary doesn’t hurt.”

Tomas O’Se, a Gaelic football player, told the Irish Independent: “I just think it’s bad timing.

“I think it’s brilliant American Football can come here. It’s brilliant that soccer and rugby was here but I mean it’s a GAA field and it’s our field. There are players that love coming to Croke Park and playing and I just think I was bad planning to put an American football game in our busiest window of the year.”

They can deal with it.

It's football season.

This game was poorly planned. Penn State has a large, large fanbase out here on the west coast. Forcing them to get up so early on a Saturday is a crock of shite.

The vast majority of Europeans don't even know the basic rules of American Football. We are trying to get it popular over there, but it is like fitting a square peg into a round hole. And in the process, you frick over West coast PSU and UCF fans.

shouldn't have gone to Dublin anyways...Dublin is kinda a shithole compared to the other major European capitals and the other cities in Ireland

well, I'm tuning in early.

Curious about the crowd.

Doubt it will remotely resemble a CFB football game stateside.

But is interesting.

I have a gut feeling it will feel very high schoolish.

Two F-16's fly-over...guess they got in the mood for this.

So many great Irish songs, Irish National Anthem isn't one of them.

Besides Cardiff or Dublin, where else would you even think about doing it?

Dublin is a great City for sports and a lot like New Orleans where you can party in Temple Bar (if tourist) and walk to either Aviva or Croke like you do the Dome...

And Ireland loves these games...the money we spend when we are over there are loved by the publicans

PSU also has an absolutely massive fanbase on the east coast. I bet the ratings will be ok.

On a side note. Hackenburg looks like the real deal.

And now CH throws a pick .

Eta: dude is a talent, for sure. Would've been interesting had BOB stayed to see what he'd do in an Nfl style offense

UCF D is the real deal as usual.

Seems like they will have a lot of close games like last year with their pedestrian O.
