Are the combo units worth buying? I've read bad things and wanted to see what the TD Tech Gods think.

Give me a decent (not top of the line) model for either a combo or separate cable modem / router that I can use for Cox.

My current cable modem is about 10 years old. Heck, maybe older.

modem: sb6121 or sb6141 (or any highly rated docsis 3.0, but you have to confirm that it is compatible with Cox)

Router: depends on size and your speed requirements, but anything with decent reviews for $50 or less will be fine for average user.

You can find good deals on slickdeals.net on an almost daily basis. They also have several combo deals which include the a router plus a modem. Most of the docsis 3.0 modems will be fine, but the ones listed above are generally considered great with consistent quality.

This combo is about $75 and better than any all in one you'll find.

This is the all in one I have. Definitely not the cheapest route but it gets the job done pretty well.
