Hi Pelicans fans!

Here is my first postcard to you from my trip to Spain with USA Basketball. I don't want to bore you, but I will tell you the days are filled with meetings and game planning -- it's been a lot of fun to work with this group of coaches and players and I'm honored to represent our country.

Here's a snapshot of a typical day for our coaching staff. We start the day with a breakfast meeting that lasts 30 minutes to an hour. From there we go to a coaches meeting for an hour. Then we have a team meeting for an hour -- so each day starts with about three hours of meetings. From there we go to practice, which can last 2-3 hours. After practice we have a meeting for another or two. After that meeting, I head back to my room, grab a shower and call my family. Afterwards, we have a dinner meeting which lasts close to 3, sometimes 4 hours and then it's bedtime. That's a typical practice day. On game days, we break down film after games, so a lot of times, we're up pretty late at night. It's been a lot of hard work, but I'm learning a lot from working with Coach K. Getting to spend time working with Anthony has been great--he's working hard and has been playing really well.

Outside of the visit to West Point--which was incredibly special -- and a 45-minute trip to a beach appearance, we've been grinding.

I'm looking forward to playing Turkey on Sunday and watching Anthony and Omer compete against each other - Go USA!

As bitter as most of us were/are about Monty last season, it's really hard not to be excited. If Monty's going to improve, you can't ask for a better offseason coaching clinic.

$20 he didn't write a word of that. but i do hope he's learning a good bit from coach K not only about game management, etc., but also about how to better use Anthony.

I'm not as down on Monty as most, but I think this year will tell his story (if healthy). We finally have solid NBA talent. AD is busting out. Asik will be a nice addition.

I really hope Month learns a lot about how to use AD there. That goes for defense as much as offense. Unfortunately, the roster construction for Team USA is quite a bit different than ours. There is no Asik to put next to him (not sure why Noah can't get a look. Does he play for France?). Nobody really plays the Anderson role, either.

it's written in a very PR style, which makes me believe a member of the Pels PR staff probably wrote it for him. not that it matters, but just a guess.

If they did they needed to proofread better.

Whether he wrote it or not, I'd assume it's based on actual info from Monty. Who knows, Dell might have taken a few notes from a call he had and told a PR intern to do something with it.

Are we sure the perimeter defense is that much better than what the Pelicans rolled out last season?

The big difference is Davis at C full time is not a problem at all. FIBA teams just aren't as big or as physical,
