would be very interesting if they make a special exemption here but Selig does have the power to do what's in "best interest of the game".

shocked with all the animosity shown so far between two sides that Aiken would even want to sign with Houston at this point.

doesn't make sense though. if the astros really believe the risk is ssoooooo high with Aiken's ligament, then why would they bend over now and still pay him. the risk hasn't changed if they truly believed there was such a medical risk.

This smells like Crane got involved and is overriding Lunhow.

Also, wasn't the purpose of low balling him so that the astros could sign one or both of the other over slot pitchers they drafted?

Surely that ship has sailed.

Would be nice to still get Aiken and Nix.

I assume if we're allowed to sign Aiken, we can still honor Nix's deal?

In other Astros Failures news:
quote:

Tuesday, the right-hander punctuated that revival with the best start of his professional career. Appel, the Astros' No. 2 prospect struck out 10 batters in eight-plus scoreless innings to lead Corpus Christi to a 1-0 victory against Frisco.

quote:

Third baseman Colin Moran, the Astros' No. 5 prospect and No. 67 on the Top 100, drove in the lone run of the game with a two-out single in the eighth inning. He extended his hitting streak to six games and is hitting .307/.357/.432 in 22 games since the Astros acquired him from the Marlins at the Trade Deadline in the Jarred Cosart deal.

quote:

Appel earned his first victory since being promoted to Corpus Christi last month. In six starts for the Hooks, he is 1-2 with a 3.15 ERA. He has struck out 34 hitters and walked 10 in 34 1/3 innings.

In 38 games (146 at bats) at Tri-City, Derek Fisher is hitting:
AVG:.301
OBP:.380
SLG:.411
RBI: 18
Hits: 44
K: 31
BB: 16
2B:4
3B:3
SB: 17

Nix's appeal to MLB is the reason Aiken is still in play (potentially).

Ryno. No thoughts on Appels performance last night or Fishers performance so far this year?

I have a feeling the Astros wind up signing both Aiken and Nix.Saw an interview with Bud Selig and he sounded like they are trying to work out a deal right now.

I'm curious to see how the Nix grievance hearing goes down and the possible resulting Aiken deal. But on brighter news... Did anybody else hear Steve Levy on Sports Center last night cover the Stros vs As game and hear him say "Chris Carter has done nothing but hit homeruns lately. He leads the majors with 11 homeruns since August 1st. The Astros will be really good really soon." I was kind of floored to hear someone speak well of us haha

It's a shame. If Carter wasn't Karter for the first 2.5 months of the season, he'd be getting MVP votes. If Altuve wasn't 5' 3" and playing for the astros, he'd be getting some MVP love too.

No, I am not saying either should win, but Altuve has had an incredible season. I can't wait to see which Carter we get to (not) watch next season.

I think this Carter is here to stay. He still young and it looks like things have finally clicked for him.

Both are playing great, but at players on a 56-77 team getting MVP love.

A legit argument could be made for Altuve. Dude leads the MLB in hits and average while being 3rd in total ABs, but is on one of the bottom 5 teams in the league. He also is 3rd in the league in steals. He gets no lineup protection and is posting numbers like that! That is pretty insane when you think about it.

ETA: Seriously, imagine how bad the Stros would have been the past 3 years and would be this year if Altuve were not there. We would have probably been around 30 wins the last 3 years.
