Was the number one ranked junior in the world. She had scored a pro-level win as a 15-year-old, and had won the 2012 Australian Open junior singles and doubles titles in Australia and Wimbledon.

she played well last night, and serena had a lot of good things to say about her after the match. she's nowhere near as large as those pictures make her seem, IRL.

She's 187lbs I heard, but a darn good tennis player. Dont think her weight is an issue or should matter

Obviously the USTA felt different for a time.

Unfortunately, the United States Tennis Association ignored those data points and focused on one number: the reading when she stepped on the scale. The USTA refused to pay for Townsend to travel to the U.S. Open until she lost some weight. Townsend’s parents paid for her travel, and she went on to make the quarterfinals in singles and win the doubles. She would go on to become ITF Junior Girls Champion, the first American to win that honor since 1992. Not bad for a player who was, to cut past the euphemisms, too fat to play. (After a flurry of negative press, the USTA reversed their decision and restored Townsend’s funding.)

What? They are pictures of her playing tennis. I saw a few minutes of her and Serena's match. She is large.

BTW: I tune in to women's tennis for the sights. Guess I will not be watching much US women's tennis.

I can see her getting way too big to be any kind of consistent threat.

There's a reason why tennis players aren't fat. The endurance required to win a major tournament versus the absolute best in the world is grueling.

Surprisingly, some fat people have good stamina. See Roy Nelson.

and i was there in person, and she is not as large as those pictures show her to be. perhaps she's lost some weight since those pictures were taken or those are just not flattering. either way, although she was definitely one of the more rotund players i saw yesterday, she's only 18 and doing quite well for herself at such a young age.

Very rarely if you're fat as a woman when you are young - you will never be in shape.

Her metabolism is at it's best, she's supposedly working out all the time...she's young.

If she's fat now, it's only going to get worse later.

Look at young skinny Serena as a teenager and look at her now.

This woman could be a Jared Lorenzen.

No and her success as a junior show otherwise....there was a time that Serena was labled as "too large" and shes done just fine in her career. Same with Capriotti, she wasnt so small herself and she found success

Isn't this mostly baby fat? A lot of women that I new who were fatish in high school and college have lost it all now that they're older.
