How important is bow warranty?

Looking at getting another compound soon and was curious how much warranty mattered. A 4 year old flagship seems to be about on par with today's bows for much cheaper.

Or it seems like an older elite wouldn't be too bad.

I just don't know how much warranty really matters on bows.

If I was spending $400 or less (bare bow) I wouldn't worry about it. Any more than that and you may want to look at brands that offer a transferable warranty.

Most of the time anything that is going to be covered under warranty (limbs/cams) isn't going to fail on its own. Outside of the older Bowtechs you don't see a lot issues with cracked/splintered limbs unless the bow is dry fired or put in a bow press wrong. Your biggest risk will be having an arrow/nock break resulting in a partial dry fire and damaging the cams.

Some brands, Elite and Obsession for example, have fully transferable warranties.

Ok thanks. How old of a bowtech should I avoid?

IMO, all the way from an old timer to a newborn.

Depends on how long you keep a bow. If you trade up frequently, not important. I'm still shooting my '98 MQ1, after two warranty limb replacements.

Normally not a big trader but this bow is more of a tester. I'm seeing if my shoulder will hold up this time. Had to switch to crossbow for a few years but hoping I can put that loud awkward thing down finally.

With no warranty I'd be hesitant to buy one from 2012 back. They finally seem to have resolved their issues mid 2012.

I'd look for an easy to draw bow like a Mathews Switchback or SBXT. They aren't the fastest (315 IBO), but they ease into the peak weight during the draw and don't dump hard into the valley. You should be able to find one in the $350 range.

Definite no-go zone.
