Need some help from someone familiar with the Houston scene on gamedays. Some friends and I are going down and we've never tailgated in Houston. I would like to know what the alcohol situation is like on gamedays.

More information: everyone in the the party is over 21 (and looks it), we'll be tailgating in purple lot mostly but we'd like to walk around, we won't have glass but want to bring drinks.

I've been told we're fine at the tailgate, but regarding walking around, I'm getting mixed information. Walking around with a beer can, ok or no? Makers in a cup, ok or no? Don't leave tailgate with open container at all?

Thanks in advance and

You're in Texas. If you walk down the street with a beer can you could end up being beaten with a nightstick.

do not walk around outside of your tailgate area holding an open alcoholic beverage. you will be ticketed. OR WORSE

i have a cool story bro related to this topic.

I moved to Houston 6 years ago for my job. My boys came in town that weekend to help me move in. That Friday after moving shite all day. We wanted to walk down Washington and get a beer. But before the walk we all grabbed 2 beers to double fist for the walk to the bar.

We had no idea of the drinking laws in Texas.

We get all the way to the bar, we probably had only drank half of one beer. There's a cop outside. He calls us over.

Cop: "Hey boys, walking down the street with a beer or two huh?"
Us: "yes sir. needed a beer after moving in all day"
Cop: "And where exactly would yall be from?"
Us: "Baton Rouge, LA"
Cop: "Uhuh, I see. Let me let you in on a little secret about Texas. Unlike Louisiana, you can't just walk up and down the street with a open container in your hand."
Us: "ohhhh, ummm....."
Cop: "I'll give you 2 options. You kill both beers in the next minute while I turn my back. Leave the empties at my feet. Or I write you all a ticket for open container. How's that sound?"
Us: GULP GULP GULP GULP GULP

pretty cool of the cop to do that. kind of a welcome to Texas thing.

Yep. New Orleans is really the only city where it's ok in. I've had a friend get an open container in BR.

We got the same reception from a cop before the LSU-Washington game up there a few years ago.

Yeah, I had a buddy get one in BR. He kind of laughed at the cop because he thought the guy was trying to hand out MIP's so that didn't probably help.

Pretty sure it's illegal on campus, except gamedays because TAF "buy's out" LSU on gamedays and is somehow above the law.

Seattle was ridiculous. They made an "LSU tailgating section" on the UW campus where we were allowed to drink. It was basically a caged area about 50yds by 50yds with a dj, a few porta-lets and a few kegs in it. We felt like animals as the locals walked by and gawked at us. It was humiliating yet glorious at the same time.

met up with some people I know but had not seen for 15-20 years since they moved to Seattle. They asked if I wanted something to drink. I said yes. They told me to get something out of the ice chest. I open it and only see cokes and 7up. I grab a coke and then pour rum in it from a 20 oz. coke bottle from my back pocket.

They looked at me like I had just killed their dog.
