Since Illinois started granting concealed carry permits this year, the number of robberies that have led to arrests in Chicago has declined 20 percent from last year, according to police department statistics. Reports of burglary and motor vehicle theft are down 20 percent and 26 percent, respectively. In the first quarter, the city’s homicide rate was at a 56-year low.

This is shocking! Ok, not really.

I'd like to see some historical data to see if the rate has been in a steady decline anyway.
FWIW, I agree with a citizen's right to CC.

Amazing how when people can defend themselves and provide a much harder target for criminals, crime goes down. Somebody explain that to Michael bloomberg as he's against it.

Gary P. Lott explained this in his book, mentioned above.

"An individual permit costs about $600 and requires at least 16 hours of classes."
It's 10 bucks here and would think that's pretty close to what most states charge.

You have to have 8 hours of class here in LA correct? The class alone costs much more than $10. Then you have other fees on top of that.

Michael Bloomingidiot won't listen to reason...it's about how he FEELS about the issue of guns and gun ownership... not the reality of it all...

"Here" is New Hampshire, where the application fee is $10 and no classes are required. The license has to be granted, or the application denied, within 14 days. And it's good for 4 years.

Each county here sets their own price. In Jefferson County, mine was 7.50. I got a 5 year, had it laminated for a total of $40 bucks. No classes. Just pass a background check.

I think there were 9 killed and 38 shot and injured this weekend in Chicago. If that's a reduction, damn.
I also believe there has not been a weekend this year that someone wasn't shot, and less than a handful of weekends that someone wasn't murdered.
Eta: This is not an anti CC post, since I doubt any of the shooters used a legally owned or licensed weapon.

Let's see if there is a long term decline...

Somewhat related....a court decision today affecting gun rights in Louisiana.

A city-parish ordinance that prohibits residents from keeping firearms in their parked cars while they’re inside establishments that sell alcohol is unconstitutional and can no longer be enforced, a federal judge ruled Monday.
Chief U.S. District Judge Brian Jackson found the ordinance runs afoul of the Second Amendment.

I wonder if this can be an example to the Dems that gun control is not the answer...
LOL of course not; only use examples of things that HELP push your agenda.
