Especially shortly after returning from injury?
This seems almost crazy to me. WTF would we do that for?

I think they're putting him back there when they don't expect a return. I think it's a ball security thing.

It looks like he's competing for the Lance Moore fair catch role on our team. In my opinion, there was a less than 1% chance he was going to return one of those punts Saturday night.

I agree, so having said that why take the chance on putting him back there at all? All it takes is one over eager kid trying to make a team and Byrd's back is reinjured!

I agree that he's just taking over as the #2 PR if Cooks is out. I am almost certain that he won't be running many back unless it's an obvious blown punt coverage. Either way, he is not as fragile as people are making him out to be - he'll be fine.

If the Saints coaching staff was worried about him getting injured they wouldn't have him back there.

Byrd seems to have such an explosive first couple steps. Really impressed me.
