quote:

"the concept of a white, blond-haired, blue-eyed master Nordic race didn't originate with Hitler. The idea was created in the United States, and cultivated in California, decades before Hitler came to power"

quote:

"Eugenics was the racist pseudoscience determined to wipe away all human beings deemed "unfit," preserving only those who conformed to a Nordic stereotype. Elements of the philosophy were enshrined as national policy by forced sterilization and segregation laws, as well as marriage restrictions, enacted in twenty-seven states. "

quote:

"Hitler studied American eugenics laws. He tried to legitimize his anti-Semitism by medicalizing it, and wrapping it in the more palatable pseudoscientific facade of eugenics. Hitler was able to recruit more followers among reasonable Germans by claiming that science was on his side. While Hitler's race hatred sprung from his own mind, the intellectual outlines of the eugenics Hitler adopted in 1924 were made in America."

quote:

"Hitler proudly told his comrades just how closely he followed the progress of the American eugenics movement. "I have studied with great interest," he told a fellow Nazi, "the laws of several American states concerning prevention of reproduction by people whose progeny would, in all probability, be of no value or be injurious to the racial stock."

quote:

Verschuer had a long-time assistant. His name was Josef Mengele. On May 30, 1943, Mengele arrived at Auschwitz. Verschuer notified the German Research Society, "My assistant, Dr. Josef Mengele (M.D., Ph.D.) joined me in this branch of research. He is presently employed as Hauptsturmführer [captain] and camp physician in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Anthropological testing of the most diverse racial groups in this concentration camp is being carried out with permission of the SS Reichsführer [Himmler]."

It has long been stated (though never concretely verified) that Hitler was influenced in his approach by the Jim Crow laws in the South and the way that Whites treated Blacks. He never wrote about it directly, but it is impossible to think that there would not be an influence there.

It's very possible because the justification that blacks where somehow sub-human and inferior stems from eugenics thought.

Science and Morality are inextricably intertwined. As well they should be, in regard to the values which humanity serves...and which values serve to promote survival and prosperity in humanity.

The perfection (value-related, subjective judgment) of both the character and the physical influence on character, are the very core of the human impetus to survive and prosper.

As such...Eugenics is/will be the very essence of future human enterprise. All manner of disease, entropic death and psychological illness in all forms (like Hitler) can be addressed at the bio-physical level. Even the Progressive 'religion' of 'social justice'/equality can be addressed in the realm of Eugenics.

The new fictional novel "The Transhumanist Wager" is informative, and somewhat entertaining in regard to the potential effects of Science, Knowledge and Power on the very essence of what we label cognitive 'humanity'. Also, Johnny Depp's movie "Transcendence".

The future will be infinitely and perceptually interesting and challenging. And indeed..."transformational".

Several European countries proposed laws of forced sterilization and such. The idea of eugenics goes as far back as Plato. Interesting to suggest that US provided inspiration for that diseased, paranoid little bastard, Hitler.

Yes she was, and since the origination she started later became Planned Parenthood and most of the abortion clinics are in black neighborhoods ( blacks make up about 13% of the population in the U.S. but are involved in 36% of abortions) her legacy lives on.

I didn't suggest it, the author did. I'm merely presenting the article because it's thought provoking.

You sure the thought of a master race didn't originate with the Vikings? Or Mongols? Or even single other madman hell bent on world conquest for the good of his people?

I was commenting on the article. I find it a stretch based on all of the evolutionary writings prior to WWI and WWII.

Hitler himself acknowledged the eugenics program in several states in the U.S. as an inspiration. He didn't mention Plato.

If one reads the article, Hitler himself attributes much of his inspiration for what he did to the U.S. eugenics program mainly conducted in California.

quote:

Hitler even wrote a fan letter to American eugenic leader Madison Grant calling his race-based eugenics book, The Passing of the Great Race his "bible." After the war, eugenics was declared a crime against humanity--an act of genocide. Germans were tried and they cited the California statutes in their defense

My point is that this crap has been around a long time. The idea that human beings are the only species that prevents the death of "inferior" humans has been out there since the theory of evolution itself and before (Plato).

This article is also filled with hyperbole that shows no proof for many claims. Nowhere do I see any support for claims such as the US (or eugenic supporters) wanting to create the blonde-haired, blue-eyed master race; or for people propagandizing for the Nazis; or for the pseudoscience racism (inferior was genetic) by those who supported eugenics. Finally, treatment for anyone who was mentally Ill was terrible at that time.

So because a specific source can't be found to verify the blonde hair blue eyes claim, the main points the article makes about the U.S. eugenics programs and it's influence on Hitler should be discarded?

I'm a social progressive, but this is a very thin view of the situation.

Financially/logically speaking, African Americans should have the highest abortion rates proportionately since they have (by far) the highest percentage of unplanned pregnancies and also the lowest socio economic status.

Even though what you say here is true, it doesn't diminish what Sanger thought about eugenics or her beliefs about the inferiority of many groups including blacks primary.
