Every preseason game, I look for a set of criteria to see if the Saints are in 2009 mode.

1. No injuries: So far, and most importantly, there hasn't been a major injury, tho Galette and PT made my heart jump for a second.

2. Run-pass offensive balance: Oh, they look extremely balanced.

3. Discipline/Focus: the offense has not had many mental lapses (like holding or false starts). They defense had some late hit penalties and coverage lapses tho on the Colts lone TD drive. But on the whole, the defense has been solid against the run and pass.

4. Defensive turnovers: Vacarro and Lewis both came up with some nice INTs, even tho the refs robbed Keenan.

Grade so far: A-

Penalties alone don't let them get an A

I want to because of all the good things I saw, but those late hits by Hicks that put the Colts in scoring distance and that terrible mental lapse by Lofton on the TD pretty much rules out a perfect A+ performance for me.

The fact they made it through with no major injuries is huge.

The penalties are starting to freak me out. They kept Indy in this game.

Not sure about the relevance of the bump.

This was not a prediction thread, just a casual grade of how starters played in one preseason game.

But the Saints starters played well pretty much throughout preseason and gave off a good hopeful vibe.

So much so, most media outlets had either the Seahawks or the Saints projected to win the NFC. And every national projection was basically scrapped with the first few loss.

Still don't know how the bump is relevant.

It's not relevant at all. I think he was just having fun with it. It was random as hell.
