where does ari gold stand in pantheon of all time greatest tv characters?

i think ari gold is easily the greatest supporting character in a tv show of all time. jeremy piven was absolutely perfect in the role.
if ari gold was the main character of the show, and there was a little more depth to the character, than he could have been second all time to tony soprano.

No. He was by farrrrrrrr the best character on a mildly entertaining show for about 2-3 seasons. Then he became by farrrr the best thing about the worst show on tv.
Supporting characters better than ari gold: comedy only, since that was his method.

On HBO alone I don't think he would be the best supporting character. That would be Al Swearengen.

He was a complete douche. But when you're basing a character on one of the Emanuel brothers he more or less has to be a douche.
