As the saying goes, you never pick a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel. Well, Dan Page just came out on the losing end of a fight with CNN's Don Lemon. If you're not PC, I guess it doesn't pay to be a guy who likes the sound of his own voice in the internet/i-phone/youtube age. To paraphrase The Clash, "he fought the press and the press won."

quote:

A police officer who pushed a CNN journalist on live television in Ferguson, Missouri, this week has been relieved of duty following the discovery of a videotaped speech in which he criticized President Barack Obama, Muslims and gays in the military.

St. Louis County cop Dan Page, a 35-year police veteran, also denounced hate crime laws and boasted of killings he claimed to have committed in the remarks delivered to a group called the Oath Keepers of St. Louis and St. Charles. Its members vow to uphold the Constitution and are drawn from the military, law enforcement and emergency responders.

"Policemen are very cynical. I know I am," Page says from a podium on the video. "I hate everybody. I'm into diversity. I kill everybody."

CNN's Don Lemon, who was pushed by Page on Monday at demonstrations triggered by the police killing of Michael Brown, obtained the video. It was uploaded to YouTube in April, but it was unclear when the recording was made.

County Police Chief Jon Belmar suspended Page after watching the video. Belmar told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he would have fired Page if a review weren't first required. The review will begin Monday and Page will be told to undergo a psychological evaluation, according to USA Today.

I was just watching his coverage. He asked his panel to raise their hand if they agreed with the officer who yelled at the crowd that he was going to kill everybody. He's a fricking idiot.

For the record, I derive no schadenfreude from this story, since I think all it does is add fuel to a fire that has almost died out. However, in his Oath Keepers speech he sounds like a caricature that was dreamed up in the mind of Malik Shabazz.

While I didnt listen to the whole thing if I had to guess he and I would be aligned on most things.

If you take the shock out of what he says and take a step back and look at it he is actually saying that he is fair and treats everyone the same. Which is what he should do.

Any cop who says "I'm a killer" should be fired. There's no rational defense for that. Plus, he's obviously crazy.

bingo

problem is many cops come from military backgrounds...they're trained to kill, then put in our communities to 'police'...well, they're also given camo, body armor, helmets, and semi-auto rifles...so they revert to their basic training...really a screwed up situation

Wait, which one was he.... Was he the guy who was moving protestors off of the sidewalk while CNN was live and Don threw his hissy fit or was he the officer with his gun raised yelling at people at night?

This isn't a smart thing for a policeman to say.

I didn't think the line," I kill everybody" could be spun in a positive manner.

Don Lemon may have ink, and Media stroke...but he just started a blood feud with a psycho. Not sure that's a win!

I seriously doubt it. It would be unjust if he did.

Another thing that's not fair will be the inevitable attempts to hang Dan Page around the neck of Darren Wilson by the Michael Brown protestors.

I don't know.
With the PR turds the Ferguson Police Chief keeps laying, He's sort of doing that to Wilson on his own.

You seem upset about this. Why?

Do you not think supposed officers of the peace should be held to a higher standard than making speeches such as this one?
