Our friend Mason posted a new thing on BSS that looks like a good read when I get back from lunch but thought you guys may want to look at it before then.

LINK

I've been saying for a while that when Tyreke and Jrue are in the game together Reke should be the main ballhandler and Jrue should be spotting up for 3. Tyrekes ability to drive with ease even when there isn't much space is amazing. Pairing him with Jrue and Anderson and...is it Oct 28th yet

quote:

Doing so could allow both wing spots on the court to be manned by a good 3-point shooter (Holiday) and a lethal one (Anderson), in addition to Davis’ proven ability to knock down shots outside of the paint. The main concern with doing so is whether or not Evans can get his teammates involved to the same degree as Holiday, but the ease with which Tyreke is able to get into the paint is a skill that could really help this group score.

so this was my favorite passage from the article.

I also think that Davis may still get some good weakside block opportunities guarding the 3s but I would rather him down low to intimidate drivers while Asik plays cleanup. Unfortunately, Anderson hasn't shown much ability in guarding the wing. If he could, we'd be unstoppable.

Thanks for sharing, and I hope y'all enjoy it. Looking forward to hearing people's thoughts about not just the column itself, but the feasibility in general of those five guys playing together.

I still don't like the idea of AD playing perimeter defense and picking up fouls playing against guys he doesn't have as big of an agility advantage against, but if his instructions are to not be too aggressive and funnel his man to Asik it could work out ok.

The fouling perspective is one I hadn't really considered, mainly because I figured he'd be less likely to pick up fouls on the wings vs. playing defense inside. Fatigue was my bigger concern for him out there.

He may not have foul trouble or fatigue issues if his instructions are to play conservatively. With his closeout ability he could play pretty far off his man and still block a jumper. In one of Peja's last years someone, maybe you guys, wrote an article on how his defense was actually very effective because he played off his man enough to limit drives but he had the length to make the mid range jumpers he forced opponents into contested.

Agree with that take entirely (and I even think I mentioned somewhere in the column that his height/wingspan gives him the ability to play further off of his man than what would be considered normal for other more typical wing defenders).

If Monty does not do this, it will validate the complaints about his head coaching ability.

He won't, Monty is stuck in the 90's. He's one of those old guys who hate changes and think the old was is better. He looks at size and height and then that say what position they should play. He sees tyreke at 6'6 so he should be a sg. I never expect Monty to use this line up it's too anti him.
