High school student suspended for saying "bless you"

A young girl, who claims she was standing up for her religious beliefs in the classroom, was suspended after breaking a class rule of saying “bless you” after a classmate sneezed. When Dyer County High School senior Kendra Turner said bless you to her classmate, she says her teacher told her that was for church.
“She said that we’re not going to have godly speaking in her class and that’s when I said we have a Constitutional right,” said Turner.
This is absurd.
She didn't even say "God bless you".

She said she finished the class period in in-school suspension.
And then went to go get on the news.
Seriously, if this happened to my kid we would not be on the news, but we would have answers & an apology from the teacher.

Yes, let's suspend a student for being polite. Brilliant.

She got "suspended" for talking back to the teacher.
I had a guy I went to high school who was a total a-hole with mental problems who started an argument with a civics teacher about how much he hated America. He also wouldn't stand for the pledge.
He got suspended for arguing with the teacher and talking when told it was time to be quite so she could teach.
I'm sure some ACLU person would try to say his freedom of speech was violated.

Btw I agree that the class rule of not being able to say bless you is pretty damn stupid

Sounds like the teacher is a thin-skinned atheist bitch.
Getting bent out of shape over that and having "bless you" as a phrase banned from the class says a lot more about the teacher than the students.

According to the school, she was not suspended or even sent out of class. She walked out after being told "No Talking".
The only person who claims to have seen a suspension slip is her pastor but no one can produce a copy.

Suspension slip... Is that even a thing? I thought they just told kids to take a few days off.

It's not original on the girl's part. Back in the 1980s a Christian girl in Houston got to speak as valedictorian. Her speech was about thanking
God. It was not approved by the adm. and she was forced to re-write.
She launched a scheme with the senior class. At the beginning of her speech she sneezed into the microphone. The entire class stood up, turned around to the seated faculty and families and shouted "GOD BLESS YOU!"

No.. The Principle stated she did not know because she was not there. She also stated there was no audio recording of it.
From the WHITE BOARD.. this teacher has singled out Christianity as a "this is a no christian zone".
She needs to be fired. She is clearly intimidating kids who are Christians.

According to Principal Peggy Dodds, Turner was not given an in-school suspension. She wasn’t sent out of the classroom, either — she chose to walk out. And, most importantly, she wasn’t punished by the teacher for saying “God bless you” — however, the teacher did admonish her for “disrupting the classroom.”
I don't see the part that says "No Christian Zone":

What I see here is some spoiled little brat who didn't want to follow rules of behavior. "Bless you" is as much talking against the rules as is "frick you".
Standing up for her religion, my arse. There's nothing on the white board that can be intelligently construed as an attack against her religion.

If you can't be tolerant of someone saying "bless you" you are a bigot.
