The Teamsters picketers were already mad. By the time Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi’s car pulled up to the Steel & Rye restaurant in the picturesque New England town of Milton just outside Boston, one of them ran up to her car and screamed, “We’re gonna bash that pretty face in, you fricking whore!”

Most definitely, they are necessary in this day and age! Thankfully, they've abandoned their thuggish past...

quote:

Angry that the show had not signed a Teamsters contract and that the production hired local PA’s to drive cast and crew vehicles, the dozen or so picketers from Boston’s Teamsters Local 25 kept at it for hours, raining down racist, sexist and homophobic threats and slurs as staffers came to and left the set that summer day. Jenn Levy, Bravo’s SVP Production, wasn’t spared. Arriving at the restaurant in her black SUV, she soon found herself running a gauntlet of vitriol. “She got of her car in front of the location and quickly ran through the picket line,” a source said. “They were yelling, ‘You bitch! You slut! We’re gonna get you!’ It went on like that all day.”

John King, Milton’s Deputy Police Chief, said the Teamsters were “threatening, heckling and harassing.” The first officer on the scene, he said, had to call for back-up after the Teamsters “gave the officer trouble.” Reading from the police report, he said the Teamsters were “hostile, swearing, and refusing to let people come in and out. Officers repeatedly tried to de-escalate the situation.” When more police arrived, the Teamsters went to the show’s hospitality tent and “harassed the crew there.” When the officers went there, King said, “A group of them slashed the tires on 14 different cars owned by the crew.”

When your history is rooted with the mob, this is what you get.

The downfall of mob has led to the downfall of unions but they think they are still relevant.

It is becoming clearer by the day that, at some point, Democrats are not going to hide behind the Pols anymore and will directly come to take your shite. This is yet another example of this.

One of the more disgusting things within is the fact that the show runners were willing to make a deal... The teamsters intimidation/blackmail tactics won but they didn't even get the payoff because they continued to act like goons..

Um, where do these union guys find the time to picket all day? Don't they have jobs?

I'm actually a union member (IBEW), but it sickens me when thugs cloaked in union garb do this kind of crap. Every one of those guys communicating threats to those people should be hauled off to jail.

I'm guessing not at the moment.

I'm guessing that the union is paying them to be there and act like that.

You think they came up with this idea all by themselves?

At least there are some bright spots in the union world.

One year after leaving union, things are going well

The threat of unions is a good thing to keep management in line.

Actually having a union is counter-productive to the workers.

“Their poor handling of this situation comes as no surprise and really is a symptom of the overall dysfunction of reality-TV production,” the crewmember said. “Reality TV is cost efficient and easier to produce than scripted or more cinematic television. As a result, everyone suffers. To save money, reality TV workers are hired for lower than standard rates because the production companies and networks refuse to embrace unions or hire union workers. Along with that comes a lack of experience, professionalism and integrity. Production executives and showrunners just don’t have the experience or wherewithal to make the right decisions on how to handle issues such as the unions harassing a crew.”

First- Someone hired to work on reality show bitches about how incompetent reality show workers are.
Second- victim blaming by crew member who is basically saying "if they would have just hired these thugs to begin with none of this would happen!"
Third- Another example of how union greed and failure to grasp economic reality and adjust accordingly screws over members.
Fourth- I'm like and more @ Magical Elves and Bravo hiring "cheap non union labor" while being uber lib-progs. Delicious.

clear case of a 'hate' crime, why is this tolerated by those who push the anti-hate speech agenda?

Teamsters are nothing more than organized crime and should be treated as such
