'Nextdoor': 1 in 4 American neighborhoods now use this private social network

Founded in 2010 and based in San Francisco, Nextdoor is a odd outlier among today’s social networks. Signing up is an onerous process, requiring substantial proof of both your identification and address. People post messages, but they are seen only by others in the immediate area, and there is no share or retweet button to proliferate messages across the network. It feels more like a modern update on a message board or web forum than a social network. But it has struck a chord across the country. When The Verge first reported on Nextdoor back in July of 2012, it was in 3,500 neighborhoods. Today, the company is announcing that its reached 40,000 neighborhoods, or roughly one in four American communities, with 10 or more active users.
Neighborhood gossip and community policing thrive on 'Nextdoor'
Is your neighborhood on this social network?

More proof people like to talk about each other instead of to each other... not surprising.

I just made an account, and that shite is useful. Some lady with a small business posted on how to drop electric bills 30% through her local company. And real people are verifying it worked. She is approved by the Chamber of Commerce.

My neighborhood is and I'm signed up
It's mostly just people bitching about people speeding, missing dogs/cats, garage sale announcements, etc

We have it in our neighborhood. Popcorn city. Never had drama until this thing. Now there's a coup de tat against the HOA board.

1 in 4 communities having 10+ members does not mean 1 in 4 neighborhoods are signed up.

I've been trying to get my girlfriend to sign up for Backdoor

I don't have a neighborhood. I got one neighbor and he's a long par 5 away. I reckon I'll just call him.

I just signed up. I'm about to troll the frick out of that place

We just have a private group on FB.
Seems simpler and more likely to get used than this thing.

I've never heard of this until now.

Never heard of this, but my neighborhood has its own website and message board. It's so funny to see how sensitive people are at the slightest hint of a troll.

So I just joined my subdivision's network. I can't believe my neighbors have been so active on it. They actually post some useful stuff on there. I had no idea that they hate our current HOA so much. They are trying to fire the current company and go with another. Lol...
