What's the point in having a sign every tenth of a mile? Just need to spend excess money on something? How about they lower the toll instead?

The interstates in Missouri have this. It is the biggest waste of money I have ever seen

I believe it has to do with insurance ratings. With a sign every 1/10 of a mile, you can see and communicate with a dispatcher your exact location.

Couldn't this be done when the new guardrail goes up? So they are blocking a lane twice when it could all be done in one shot.

They have to spend the money allotted to them each year to continue getting the same amount of money or more each year.

So if they don't spend it, they lose it.

Probably so, but that would be too easy. And just because I offered up a possible explanation, doesn't mean I agree with what they are doing.
