White flight is such a misnomer. It's class flight. I don't see lower class whites moving to affluent suburban areas just to get away from blacks.

he racial composition of Ferguson has shifted since 1990, however. In 1990, residents of Ferguson who were identified in the U.S. Census as White comprised 73.8% of the total, while those identified as Black made up 25.1%.[23] (The remainder, 1.1%, identified with other racial categories.) In the 2000 census, 44.7% were White and 52.4% were African American. In the 2010 census, 29.3% were White and 67.4% were African American.

Well Ferguson went from 73.8% white to 67.4% black in 20 years. If there is anymore white flight there won't be any white people left there.

52/44, but I would think it would be 80/20 or something ridiculous after this...who would put up with that? I imagine property values are plummeting as we speak so I guess a lot of people are fricked

No white flight. HUD is moving right now, to counter that; building low income housing in White areas.

And for the most, the economy won't support it in many instances. There was a real battle going on in the Parish next to mine re just this issue (school choice re locale). People moved to nice areas and started schools of their preference. No problem...great school. Problem schools in the Cities didn't like it...sued...won...busing.

At one of the meetings a Black lady even stood up and mocked the 'White Flighters'...with a "yall can't move again because of the bad economy". Needless to say...not good for racial healing.

All aside...if I lived in Ferguson, and I wee either young, or affluent...I'd be thinking move to an area where people shared my values. Otherwise, I'd gun up for my family.

What's the opposite of "white flight"?

Black plunge?
Black swim?
Black huddle?
Black walk?
Black loiter?

Is it racist? I think not, but I've been told white flight is racist.

I've been mulling how I'd feel and what exactly I'd be doing if Ferguson was 10-20 miles from where I live. It makes it a hell of a lot more real when it's in your back yard. It's easy to pretend that a race riot is no real threat when you are a thousand miles away.

Sucks for those trying to sell right now. Probably not in high demand.

Yes, there will be white flight. You should always put the safety of your family and property first.

Absolutley, Hell in Zachary it is happening extremely fast and there has been like this to push it. It came to Baker, now coming to Zachary and soon coming , destroying Ferguson even quicker.

One thing for damn sure is businesses will be moving. Happened with the Trayvon thing.

Luckily downtown sanford is recovering but there are still a number of empty store fronts.

I would expect to see anyone who can leave do so.
It may be the businesses that leave first though and then the city will just die.

Sorta like a mini version of Detroit.

St. Louis was already like Detroit back in the late 70s / early 80s.

Christ, John Carpenter filmed Escape From New York in areas of the city hit by a fire and didn't have to do much in the way of set dressing to pull off a post-apocalyptic nightmare.

did anyone notice that the business owner in the Michael Brown video was an Indian?

that is one thing I've noticed in the Jackson, MS area....most of the gas stations are owned by Indians...
