quote:

25 University of California Los Angeles students participated in a sit-in protest because, get this, one of their professors had the gall to correct grammar and spelling issues on some black students’ papers.

Val Rust, a professor of education and information, was the target of the protestors for what they feel was racial insensitivity. Describing themselves as “aggrieved minority students,” they claim that the professor was wrong to correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar in the papers of black students.

quote:

For all the hype and grandstanding over their professor’s “crime” the only example the protesters could put forth was this: he told a black female student that the word “indigenous” should not be capitalized. The student felt this correction was “ideologically motivated.”

wtf.

not even for the "Race" angle

this is what SJWs truly believe

all you have to do is ignore objective criteria, invent some negative intent establishing that criteria, and you can literally get away with anything

What they should do is give them all As and allow them to graduate with honors announcing to the world "we will no longer hold African American's to the grammar standards established by Caucasians. Every black student that has a diploma from UCLA has kept their African American language identity. Go forth and apply for jobs"

I'm sure that will serve them well in life.

Hope this doesn't move to the UK. I'd be fricked. I fail papers for poor grammar.

Just another case of whitey keeping the brothers down...oh wait, seems like through a complete lack of effort at remedial shite they are doing it to themselves.

The only way this will matter is if the university caters to it.

If they essentially write this off as ridiculous (which is precisely what it is), and move on without sensationalizing it, everything will be fine.

On the back end, I'd like to know how 25 individuals who are moronic enough to believe this shite actually got into college.

But are your grammar standards "ideologically motivated"?

And another race based thread.

You and Golden Nugget should "room" together. You have a lot in common.

you think this thread is about race?

I do always find the refrain from your types about "intelligence" to be quite comical considering your replies.

Get that professor to see the idiocy that is written here with made up words, made up spellings etc.

Kids write papers like they are texting.

I got a resume with u instead of you. Dumped it.

I can imagine frustrated English teachers reading papers by students who have their entire writing style geared to Twitter.

That must be horrible.
