I'm sure this has been discussed before, as everything under the sun has already been brought up. But, how has it never occurred to me before that St. Louis being in the NFC West makes absolutely no sense.

I get that it's a throwback to when they were in L.A. And the biggest culprit in the non-geographical alignment is that most of the teams in the NFL are in the east. But Dallas is west of both Missouri teams and in the NFC East, while KC and St. Louis are in western divisions.

Well they don't belong in the East or North because of historical rivalries in those divisions. You could make a case for them vs. Carolina being the last spot in the South, but then they'd have to stick Carolina in the East and that wasn't happening.

It's just screwy. I get the rational behind it. But it's one reason why I somewhat approved of the B1G going with "Leaders" and "Legends". While the names were stupid, the didn't base alignment off of geography so they didn't want to use directionality in the names.

Dallas/St. Louis in the East/West I find to be the biggest offender so the obvious solution is move St. Louis back to L.A. or to San Antonio.

Indianapolis, Baltimore and Miami need to be realigned in the AFC. Inianapolis makes no sense in the South. This should be the alignment:

AFC North:

Cleveland
Cincinnati
Pittsburgh
Indianapolis*

AFC East:

New England
New York
Buffalo
Baltimore*

AFC South:

Houston
Tennessee
Jacksonville
Miami*

This kinda happens in every sport. Texas and Houston play in the AL West for baseball. Memphis plays in the Western conference in basketball. Kansas City and St. Louis play in the Western divisions of their respective conferences. 2/3 of the teams in every major sport play in the eastern half of the country, so you're always going to have geographical outliers

Not nearly as bad as the old NFC West, which had New Orleans, Atlanta, and Carolina along with St. Louis and San Fran!

The difference there is that no teams west of Houston and Arlington play in the East. They are actually geographically west of all the teams in the Central and East divisions. Baseball actually doesn't have the same problem that the NFL has in that regard because they had teams move west(Dodgers, Giants).

Things are fine now.

No realignment needed.

Things were a disaster in '94 or '95 when they did the badly needed realignment:

Phoenix Cardinals were in the EAST
New Orleans and Atlanta were in the WEST
The 49ers were the ONLY team west of the Mississippi, in the West.

I agree with that alignment. Then move the Rams west of Dallas and everything is copacetic.

Ya you're right in that respect. It's about money though, Dallas is the only candidate that would make sense to swap with St. Louis and the NFL isn't going to break the rivalries it has in the NFC East simply for the sake of geography

No one is breaking up the NFC East. It is the division with the best rivalries and the largest fan bases that all have national followings.

Arizona was like a second Dallas in the 90s even before Emmitt went there. That stadium was like 80% blue/white in Phoenix for Dallas games. I am sure that Cardinals fans absolutely hate the Cowboys for this shite.

Dallas v San Fran would be a good rivalry also. Who can get their 6th ring first? etc.

The past is good and all, but sometimes it's OK to break things up.

Same shite with the SEC so scared of losing Alabama-Tennessee.

The cards def needed to GTFO out the NFCE as they were definitely a misfit. The cool thing about the NFC East in its current form is that all teams are rivals with each other and no other division can say that (at least not to the level of the NFCE)
