Any fans of this fantastic duo out of MS on Fat Possum Records? They tour the SE quite a bit, playing at fairly small places. They're absolutely steeped in Southern culture with lots of homages to southern literature in their lyrics. They're named after a Barry Hannah short story for god's sakes. Also recently had a song on the Jason Molina tribute.

One of my favorites Linens

Another great one: Swannanoa

Then a little bit of their harder stuff: I Want Blood

The contrast in guitar tones on this one is amazing:
Backbone

I was starting to worry that there weren't any fans on here, which was going to make me reconsider my high opinion of the tastes of this board.

They're coming to Fayetteville in a couple of weeks for Roots Fest (they actually play here pretty frequently). My wife and I have been listening to all of the bands playing the fest a lot over the last few months as a run up to it (our business is a sponsor because we love the damned thing so much), and the Water Liars have really resonated with us.

I'm going to try to gift them with a copy of Grit Lit: a Rough South Reader when I see them as they're pretty big fans of the genre.

I actually started a water liars thread a few months back (I think at least), but there wasn't too much interest.

They're probably a little niche to become especially popular, but they're in my wheelhouse.

They are pretty good. I saw them at JRs the last time they were in Fayetteville. The lead singer Justin grew up near Greenwood in western Ark.

I didn't realize he was from Greenwood. That explains why they've played here so much in the past, I guess. I'd always wondered if they had some connection to the area.
