Just saw some pictures on WonderWall that was linked from my MSN homepage that mentioned Ellen and Portia De Rossi's 6 yr anniversary, so I'm looking at the pictures and it's obvious that Ellen is the man and Rossi is the lady. Is this the normal arrangement where one assumes the male role and the other the female in appearance? Just asking for people who know about these relationships if this is typical, this is not a troll but looking for understanding and insight from our gay/lesbian brothers and sisters.

Do you live under a rock, or gone outside in the last 25 years?

Re lesbians. Sometimes they are both masculine looking, sometimes both feminine looking, sometimes one of each.

What's funny to me is that they usually shun gender stereotypes, but choose these roles in their own relationships.

She's def. a lesbian, but in her much younger years, she dated a few guys. Some fraternity brothers of mine were pretty good friends with her brother back in the day.

Why did you post your "observation" as a question?

Yup. Not all lesbian relationships follow the same pattern. Everyone's different in this world.

That makes sense, I do recall a couple that worked with my brothers and sisters at a factory that became a couple after one divorced her husband after several yrs of marriage and children. They would come over to fish frys, parties and such. The one lady who divorced her husband was not real feminine looking but she did keep the feminine appearance, makeup, hair, clothes, etc. the other was a collegiate softball player in her younger days and she was the alpha, both were very enjoyable to be around.

no. you cannot apply hetero-normal constructs to gay couples.

Well I guess after I observed the pictures I wondered if same sex couples generally assume a role as one being male and one being female and this same question is for males also, hence the "Just an observation regarding gay couples?" title implied a question about gay couples.

Ellen is gay? Well that explains a lot.

I'm not sure what you mean, "euphoric about the gay"? but I am trying to get more understanding about the roles that same sex couples assume in their relationships.
