Saturday morning riddle

3 men get a hotel room. The clerk charged the men 30.00 for the night. They go upstairs and get settled in.
A lil while later, the clerk realizes the room was only supposed to be 25.00. She calls the bellboy and says return this 5 dollars to the 3 men upstairs. On his way up the bellboy says to himself "they can't break five evenly amongst 3, I'll give them each $1 and I'll keep the other 2."
So, each man payed 9 for the room=27. The bellboy kept 2. That equals 29.00. Where's the 30th dollar??

Because 25 does not divide by three, there's one dollar extra.

Room cost $25. $27-$2 equals $25.

There is no missing dollar. The men spent $27. Of which $25 went on the room and $2 went to the light fingered bell boy. You can not add the $2 the bellboy has to the $27 the men spent as this $2 actually comes out of the $27 the men spent, the other $25 going on the room.
Put another way consider how the $30 breaks down:
$25 - room
$3 (3x $1) back to the men
$2 Bellboy

It tries to trick you into subtracting the $2 that has already been subtracted. My dad laid this one on me in HS.

25 for the room and he returned a dollar to EACH OF THEM. there are THREE. 25 plus 3 equals 28 not 27. 28 plus 2 equals 30.

The bellboy is one of the 3 men. He gets his dollar plus his 2 he took. So 3+1+1 = 5.
