Kindle Fires

Thinking about whether to get one or not. For everyone that has one, is it worth getting one? What are some of the pros and cons of a Kindle Fire?

Is the primary reason for price? Because I would just get a Nexus 7. I don't have personal experience with the newest Kindle Fires, just the first-gen, but the OS was basically set up to sell you more Amazon stuff. It's like an Amazon ecosystem in itself.

I have a first generation 7 inch. It's fine as a tablet. However, the interface takes some getting used to. There are 2 primary benefits to a Fire vs. other Android tablets and both revolve around Amazon Prime. Amazon currently doesn't make a Prime Video app for Android, so if you want to stream Prime Video you have to go with a Kindle Fire or an iPad. They also let you "borrow" a small selection of books from the Kindle Lending Library LINK
If the Prime benefits have no value to you, then I'd say whether the Fire is right for you or not depends on where it falls in your budget. If you're looking at the $139 entry level then it's not a bad choice in the low end, especially with so many no name brand tablets that are old or under powered. If you are looking more to the middle or high end, you should also consider tablets from the major manufacturers. There probably are many better choices once you get into the $200 price range.

It doesn't even have to be a Kindle. I'm no expert on this kind of stuff, but if there is something that is similar to a Kindle, that may be cheaper and just as good, that would be fine too.

My wife has the first gen Fire and it seems real laggy now. I want to reset it and start fresh to see of that will help.

I got the fire HDX, I got a $60 off it last year for being a prime member, so I paid about $170 for it. I like it a lot especially streaming prime. And you get special kindle deals at the Amazon store, which are very good
