Need advice...introducing hot peppers to Yankees

I have two golfing partners here in Bossier who are also retired. One is from Illinois and the other from Minnesota. We play at least once a week. They are great friends and we often lunch together with the wives.
They share stuff from their garden...like tomatoes and cucumbers. My garden is hot peppers... serranos and jalapenos.
I gave them some today and they looked at the peppers in a quandry..like 'what are we supposed to do with this?" I said "I use them in gumbo, chili, dirty rice, jambalaya, court bullion, scrambled eggs, stew, etc"
They were still intimidated. To them 'pepper' is black pepper. Does anyone here have any recipe ideas where people who are hot pepper averse can incorporate it? Or should I just give up on the idea?

This isn't a "northern" thing.
It's an inexperienced cook thing.

Yeah it's not like people from up north aren't exposed to spicy foods. Do they not eat Mexican or Asian?

You should have pickled them and given to them in a jar. Pickled poo tastes good.

Tell them how to roast and freeze them. They can add a little at a time to some of their own dishes, assuming they cook. Chili and bean soups come to mind.

You should ask them what they or they're wives cook on a regular basis. Then give them tips on how to incorporate the peppers. Make them some salsa and give it to them with a recipe.

Tell them to cut them in half and take out the seeds and membrane before using. If its still too hot, give them some bell peppers
