Free tampons

quote:

But cost was hardly the crux of Valenti’s argument. “This is less an issue of costliness than it is of principle,” she later admitted, because “menstrual care is health care.” She explained how, like birth control, “the idea of women even getting small tax breaks for menstrual products provokes incredulousness” not only because “people lack an incredible amount of empathy” but also “because it has something to do with vaginas.” (Ooh, the “V-word.” Bet Valenti felt a transgressive thrill just writing it!)

Kudos for doing such a fine job rebutting the article.

Do you ever add anything to a thread or do you simply make glib comments? What do you think about feminist wanting the gov. to pay for feminine hygiene products?!

Selfish women will be advocating this soon enough.

In our Senate campaign, the Dems decided to divide using women claiming that the Repub candidates favor allowing employers to control womens health care. I really hope no one is stupid enough to fall for it, but I'm sure a few gullible females and basement dwelling males will bite.

I think it's a stupid thing to worry about, because it's not happening.

The minute someone says that something should be free, is the minute I know that that person does not understand the concept of scarcity.

The point of the thread isn't simply the asking part, but the mindset behind the asking. And the mindset is very relevant.

It’s the terminus point of modern feminism: make the deeply personal very publicly political, and get someone else to pay for it!

I didn't read past that.
