I was looking for a new set of binoculars at a fairly decent price. Budget is $300. I was thinking about getting the Leupold BX-2 Acadias. LINK

Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks

Best advice is to go to the store and look through several different brands types and see what you like, then price check on optic planet and midway...but what ever you do, do not look through some high dollar ones, because nothing will compare

be sure and check out Vortex, I have not looked through their binoculars but love their scopes

you get what you pay for.

If you wear glasses you want ling eye relief

If you are over 40 don't buy too much light magnification. Objective divided by power no more than 5 ( 8 x 40 )

Got my dad a 10x50 Rogue and he loves them. Very easy on the eyes for a 10 power.

These will be my next set though.

I have a compact Pentax 12x set that I haven't found a peer to in terms of light gathering or clarity for the money, definitely a good choice for sporting events and hiking.

Cut and pasted from 2013 (and Leupold is good as well):

quote:

Nikon Monarch and Vortex are both good recommendations. I use Eagle Optics Ranger 10x50's for birding and love them. They have been used and abused on hundreds of days and still have very crisp optics. There is a reason that a LOT of birders use Eagle Optics.

Eagle Optics

I bought a pair for my brother 2 years ago on a sale before Christmas and they were $250 so I'd hold out a bit and hope for that.

As to power - most people are more comfortable with something like 8x42 and they are roughly 70% of the binos sold. More powerful gives a better image but at the cost of it being harder to find what you are looking for and a shakier image. But I still prefer 10x50's which collect more light and are better in dim light even with my 57 year old eyes. I would not recommend going with anything stronger than 10x.

The Rangers are $279 now which is actually a pretty good sale.

I bought a pair of Leupold Mojave few months ago and love them. As others said go to a store and look through them, these were night and day above some other models, Nikon Monarchs were a very close 2nd for comparable price. Pick your top two then see if salesman will let you bring them outside, was leaning to monarchs until I brought outside then was sold on leupold.

Just bought some Bushnell Excursion, these are a great choice for the price. Not to heavy and easy to adjust.
