In a risky bid to jolt sagging sales, Coca-Cola Co. KO +0.60% is paying $2.15 billion to acquire a 16.7% stake in energy-drink maker Monster Beverage Corp. MNST +25.82% as part of an asset swap.

Coke badly needs some big new ideas. Global soda sales growth is slowing for a third straight year, and the company missed its overall targets last year as a result. Diet Coke is falling off a cliff.

KO is up almost 2% in pre-market trading.

1) I thought they already owned Monster and 2) Monster is horrible. Who wants to drink a whole pint of energy drink?

I called this a couple of weeks ago (in my head of course so I have no proof). But I was staring at a ticker line, MNST rolled by, then KO, and I was thinking why hasn't Coke bought them yet?

Can't get too excited about it in relation to KO. Coke is making effort to appear like they are doing "something" to boost performance. It is a trade only.

He did and he's got an "I told you so" article this morning directed at the analysts who downgraded Monster a few months ago.

Not to hijack, but what is this boards opinion on Cramer? I know other sites I read or frequent all have the mindset that if Cramer says "Buy!" you need to sell, and vice versa.

I mean you say that, but Monster has a nice market share in this modern world of grab and go quick energy fix

It may not be good for you, but that doesn't stop the American populace from grabbing those things every day to pick them up after that McDonald's lunch on the way to "work it off" at the gym

Yeah I read the I told you so article this morning when it popped up on my google finance page.

I usually try to avoid his picks like the plague.
