Found this old Raleigh 3 Speed on CL. The guy wants $100 for it, but he has already came down from $150. I can probably get it for $50.

I want to fix it up for my wife. Probably needs a good $100 worth of work. Is it worth it? Too much of hassle?

Are you trying to get your wife off'ed by one of the AP rednecks that gets mad when they see people riding bikes on the shoulder?

it doesn't really matter as long as the frame is her size

new tires/tube - $50
new saddle - $30 (unless she wants a Brooks...)

just need to soak the chrome parts in some acid to clean them up

maybe a new paint job?

the Brooks saddle that is on it is worth more than the rest of the bike.

I don't like to restore them myself but I like looking at and admiring them.

I saw an early 80's Pinarello for sale on CL one time for $300. He had already sold it but the time I inquired about it.

It needs more than that. A good saddle will cost that. You probably need new cables, grips, and full serviced. About $125 plus a saddle.

Ehhhh. Not really. Road saddle. It's comfortable, but not made for long distance which it why it's on eBay.

That being said, if you want a cruising saddle you can ride for days, get the adamo ISM Touring.

It's like a recliner.

kinda pisses me off that they changed the saddle at some point because all these old Raleighs should have came with Brooks saddles

I agree, he'll need to drop 125-150, but you can get a bull shite saddle for <40.

You might need new pedals. I like the look of it.

After you take the reflectors off.
