I hit my head on a piece of angle iron today at work and opened a rather large gash in it. My question is: Is it normal not to presribe any pain meds for a head injury? My head is hurting so bad it is making me sick to my stomach.

Concussions tend to do that.

Rub some dirt on it, take some OTC pain meds, and walk it off.

If you were doped up you would miss warning signs.

You can get pills for anything. Call the doc back and tell him it hurts too bad and Tylenol doesn't help

Can't give you narcotics because they can mask symptoms of a true head injury.

Many times with head injuries...you may not show symptoms right away.

Take motrin or Tylenol for it.

And seek medical attention if you start vomiting or start feeling dizzy.

When I got a concussion, I was advised to wait 24 hours before doing this.

Just go take a little nap, it'll feel better when you wake up.

Well that makes sense because nausea is a symptom of a concussion.

I have seriously had way too many concussions in my life. I get dizziness for an extended period of time after almost every workout these days.

Guess it depends on what happened. On the peds floor...I've given Tylenol to kids after a concussion.

OP.....follow the instructions your DR gave you. Please remember the OT isn't an Urgent Care or ER.

That's how I always do it, I take off running and slam my head into the nearest sharp object it has always worked before.

Don't take Motrin, take tylenol. No NSAIDs after hitting your head that hard

Was just fricking with you. No need for name calling.

Guess I won't give you my expert medical opinion now.
