For those that don't venture to saints talk.

Louisiana is also the place writers go to train in all aspects of being a professional southerner: the arrogance, the liberal outrage, the overlong paeans to the food, the insistence that everyone outside of the Deep South has no idea how to live life correctly, the Jack White-ish brand of music snobbery, the mandatory "you've never been to a football game until you've been to an LSU night game" brag (LSU night games are pushed on people more than The Wire itself), and all the fricking vampires.

Well that was thorough. They are pretty bad at trying to be funny.

I think deadspin does a good job of poking fun the way a fan of that team would do it. Honestly 95% of what they say is true. Can't be mad if it's true.

The Saints love to present themselves as a cute little underdog franchise here to save a downtrodden-but-wonderful city. But at their core, they are still a heartless team run by a skinflint who essentially lucked into seeing his franchise become a beloved public institution just as he was poised to ship them out of town.

That sounds like a post from a falcon fan website.

The part after "heartless team" is absolutely correct. It's amazing to see the revisionist history surrounding Tom Benson.

I love the Saints and I'm a season-ticket holder, but I've never forgotten what Benson tried to do by almost moving the Saints permanently and I'll probably never forgive him, either. And for years, he was a penny-pinching miser when it came to the Saints. Lot of revisionist history now that he's supposedly Mr. New Orleans by keeping the Saints in town and buying the Pelicans. But if the NFL hadn't stopped him, he probably would have moved the Saints to San Antonio after 2005.

That was never true. He's always been a spender

We've been in the top 5 in player salaries for a long time.

People who say that just show they have no idea what they are talking about.

And they would be in Jacksonville if he didn't buy the team. I hated what he might have done, but he also has a billion dollar business to think about.

He's one of the most influential people in New Orleans history. His good far far outweighs the bad
