Well, finally getting out of Midland and McAllen Texas (hell of a dry spell needless to say), and moving to Birmingham tomorrow. Got a lot of family out there which is a plus, but want to know more about what there is to do there. Bars, restaurants, areas to live in, etc.

Definitely in perfect positioning for the football season, hitting up Atlanta, Nashville, and Oxford for all of the big games.

Birmingham is being reitalized at the moment. I've heard nothing but good things on the progression of the Downtown area.

Just stay away from any unarmed teens at gas stations.

Well, just tell me this, is Mountain Brook the place to live if you're in your 20s, or somewhere else?

I lived in Hoover for 2.5 years from '11-'13. It's not as bad as people make it out to be, it's mostly LSU folks on here who aren't familiar with Bham that rag on it most.

Just like with any city, it's what you make of it. Lakeview is a solid young professional type crowd with some really good bars and restaurants. It's been a while so I can't remember specifics as far as streets and whatnot, but I'm sure some Bhamians will be along shortly to help you out. Good luck.

Oh, and yes...the gumps are insufferable. You think they're bad online? Geez, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Define Birmingham.

Birmingham can mean this....

Or this...

Or this...

You're going to have to be a bit more specific.

Don't listen to the people that have never been to Birmingham.

Check out bars/breweries like Good People and Avondale. Go to a Thirsty Thursday at the Baron's new stadium. restaurants downtown like Rojo, Pancake House, Saws. Others like Sam's Super Sandwiches in Homewood.

They're a lot of good bars like Innisfree, Tin Roof, Paramount, and Parkside.

Areas to live? not knowing much about you I would say either Homewood, Avondale, Highlands.

I don't know yet, since I'm going to be living out of an extended stay hotel. I'm trying to find out where exactly I should move to in Bham.

Mountain Brook is one of the best places to live in the country, but more for families.

Kind of a bar fiend and want to live within walking distance of a few if possible.
