I don't know why they kept Ajinca or Withey over him.

Trying to keep as much cap space available as possible for next offseason in the event that Gordon opts out. Davis/Ryno/Asik are going to be getting all but ~5 minutes per game in the frountcourt.

Regardless of what happens this season, I would call negativism . . . your . . . oeuvre.

But what do I know.

That's still well out of the playoffs, if it breaks down similar to last season.

It won't. The West isn't going to go .667 against the East again this year.

In addition to that, other than potentially playing Salmons over Tyreke, the roster make up does not allow Monty to play a less qualified Vet over an equal or greater young guy. Maybe it's coincidence or maybe Demps agreed with all of us that said he needed to build a roster to protect Monty from himself.

If Reke doesn't get at least 30mpg, I will personally take a shite on Monty's doorstep and set it aflame. Won't even bother with the paper bag.

I don't see how you could say that. The big move he made this offseason was trading for Asik, who fits more into what Monty has been asking for. As far as the decisions, having significantly more talent helps there.

I'm thinking around 8-10 games is realistic. Unless Davis makes a monster leap. Then anything is possible.

So is it 44-45 wins or 47-49 wins?

I'd take 47-49, I think that's a realistic building block year. Any less and it's a shite show.

Also, if Asik and Anderson don't each average around 30 minutes per game, I'll be pissed.

47-49 won't save Monty

Given our youth and our players' lack of experience with each other, I think .500+ saves him.

47-49 wins makes the playoffs this season. 48 was the 8 seed last year and the East will be more competitive.

The problem isn't Monty choosing defensive players over offensive players, because he doesn't always do that, Ryno will get plenty of minutes. The problem is Monty choosing inferior defensive players to play bottom of the league defense while the offense is playing 3 on 5. Last year's team showed it could win more with offensive small ball, and Monty showed he'd rather lose his way than play to the roster's strengths. Assuming the team is healthy he shouldn't have to choose losing defense over competitive offense.

Asik is one of the best defensive centers in the league. He and AD should be able to cause enough chaos that we may not mind if Asik gets some of Ryno's minutes. Now if Asik was getting Ryno's minutes while Aminu was in the game instead of a competent offensive player, then you've got problems. But even Salmons over Tyreke in that situation might make sense. The rotation minutes we might end up complaining about most this year could be Tyreke vs Gordon. Who do you play with the twin towers?

Monty played Brian Roberts, a far superior offensive player, over Austin Rivers, a far superior defensive player.

This is talking out of both sides of your mouth. Who was the coach when the team "showed it could win more with offensive small ball"? We had a respectable record with a pretty bad roster for most of the year.

I agree with all of this. I'm still not sure how I feel about Tyreke's fit with this team. At this point, I don't expect him to learn to hit jumpers, so he almost needs a stretch 4 to earn his money. Salmons/Davis/Asik and Evans/Anderson are both much better options than Evans/Davis/Asik. Evans/Asik will be this year's watered down version of Chief Steamer.

Evans/Anderson/Asik should be passable in situations.

I assume you're calling Davis/Asik the Twin Towers.

That's because offense vs. defense is clearly number 2 on Monty's Coaching Flow Chart that he uses when you have people of similar talent levels.

1. Humble Veteran > Arrogant Kid
2. Defense > Offense
3. Rebounding > Shooting/Spacing
4. React to other team, ie Small Ball only on teams without a legit big.

I came up with this tongue in cheek several months back, but I think it's pretty accurate based on what we've seen. It will be interesting to see Ryno vs. Asik, because this chart says Asik will get more minutes.

That's if you assume the times he played small ball were by design, but for the most part they weren't. There were a few times MCFC #4 came up, but the other times that it was employed, injury forced Monty that direction.
