I honestly have no idea.

Is there any benefit to protein after cardio similar to a shake after weightlifting?

Any particular reason why or is that just your routine?

I just don't want to waste protein on a Cardio day. I just replace the glycogen and then use my protein shake for resistance days. Just to save money.

But, I'm no expert. Maybe mouton or DrTyger will pop in.

I figure that if I do use it then I probably won't use as much powder as normal.

I do not do separate cardio days, so when I finish my workout/cardio I choose some lean protein(eggs or so), but sometimes I do grab a protein shake

Eggs might be a good idea instead of an entire shake.

I'm not a huge workout guy, so take everything I say with that in mind. When I was actually doing some real distance running (at least for me) and pushing myself to the point that I was going to be sore for a few days, I'd take protein. At that point you're tearing down your muscles and it's going to help you rebuild. If you are just running 2-3 miles and you can do that in your sleep, I don't see how there's a big benefit. At that point you aren't really building up your legs.

It really depends on how hard you workout. If you do a stationary bike for 15 minutes at a comfortable pace for cardio just drink some water. If you run stadiums for 30 minutes drink a protein shake.

If I do any shake after cardio, I like one with a mix of 4 parts carbs to 1 part protein.

Chocolate milk is pretty close to that.

Protein shake after cario is pretty much a waste. What you really need is a banana afterwards just to get your blood sugar up again and keep you from crashing.

Protein shakes are good after lifting because you have broken down muscle fibers that need to rebuild. During that post workout window, the muscles absorb protein at a higher rate than normal because they use it for repair (protein synthesis). It's best to do this in a shake because it's liquid base and the body absorbs it faster than if you were to eat a chicken breast.

I'm pretty sure you are also breaking muscle down if you are doing intense cardio.

Edit: why the anchor? Seems like a legit OT thread.

Extreme answer. IMHO, look at the bigger picture of your personal goal to find your answer.

I did sprints and then 20 minutes of stadiums last night. The other 6 days I'm weight training. My diet isn't going to take in less protein on the 7th day simply because it was my cardio day. At all times of the week at least one area of my body is rebuilding.

Simply put, there's no simple answer.
