Are they worth money? If my box only puts out 1080I, how does affect the picture.

Like any brand new technology, it'll probably be better to wait a bit for everything to catch up to it and prices to lower.

Yeah, save your money OP. Last time I checked, those ultra TVs aren't utilized yet and won't be for another couple of years.

In that case he can buy it, but I don't know what to tell him about House of Cards in 4k.

only tech I'm interested in is oled, but I'm not even sure if there are any consumer oled tv's available right now(and even if there are the price would be ridiculous). When they first demo'd some smaller sized oled tvs a few years back i read some reviews stating the picture quality was the best, bar none.

4k has two things going against it, first there isn't enough content to justify purchasing a 4k tv and second is that many reports are that the high pixel count is a case of "diminishing returns"
