$40 visits...$4 for employees

quote:

Wal-Mart as market mover Lisa Bielamowicz, the Advisory Board's chief medical officer, notes that Wal-Mart's move keeps with the broader trend of retailers, big-box stores, and other non-traditional competitors charging into health care delivery. And Wal-Mart's entry into the market could push hospitals and doctors to up their game.

And lower their fees..

Look at this for what's it is worth. There are many people that don't go to the doctor. I know you guys, the cream of society and amazing IQ's won't be using Walmart, but at least some of the refuse of society will.

Thoughts?

I'll be glad to get my doctor's visits at the same place I get my bread and tires.

It'll be interesting to see.

I wonder how malpractice will be handled.

More consumer choice. Sounds like a good thing to me. I wonder how long it will be before the libs try to block this.

I wish the article said more about the actual details of their strategy. Whatever it is, it has a damn good chance of working.

I get to bring my dead relative to customer service. If I remember the receipt, I get my money back. I'll probably forget, so I'll just get a store credit :(

A cheap free market alternative for those who may not can afford expensive healthcare?

How about that....and we didn't even need Government to do it.

Could lighten the loads of the emergency rooms.

It's not like specialists and shite will be taking a serious dive. What, is Walmart going to hire cardiologists with a salary of 60K or something?

Is it possible that they helped enable it? Walmart wants to get some of the money back they essentially have to pay out by giving healthcare coverage to all full-time employees. So why not provide the care themselves? Rather than said employee going elsewhere?

I think it's a fantastic idea. Hope the lib-progs don't try to shut it down. This could help a lot of families.

Oh and...

I thought lib-progs were the ones opposed to anything "Walmart"? I think most rational folk around here appreciate Walmart even if we don't choose to shop there.

True Story:

Nurse Practioner sends a patient home on pain meds for back pain. Turns out it was a rip roaring pneumonia. He's currently in the ICU not doing well.
