Aw crap

quote:

U.S. military aircraft carried out airstrikes on Islamist militants besieging Kurdish forces in northern Iraq, the Pentagon announced Friday.

The airstrikes targeted artillery being used by militants of the Islamic State extremist group against Kurdish forces defending the Irbil, the Kurdish regional capital, the Pentagon said. It said the artillery was used “near U.S. personnel.”

Washington Post

And from fox
quote:

Two F-18 aircraft dropped "500-pound laser-guided bombs on a mobile artillery piece" near the city of Irbil, after IS was using the artillery to shell Kurdish forces defending the city where U.S. personnel are located, the Pentagon said.

Good. Wipe 'em off the face of the earth. Although, I realize that's not possible. So, greatly reduce their ability to operate.

I'm cool with bombing ISIS. Those are some really evil people that need to be stopped. I'm proud of Obama for making the right decision on this.

I agree, but arent these the same people we wanted to give guns and bombs to in Syria?

Keeping track of the good guys and bad guys in the Middle East is like watching 90's WWE reruns.

Very apt analogy.

This is where I distance myself from the isolationist wing of the libertarian party

I understand the minding our own business, not police the world mindset, but if we can fire some missles and slow down a genocidal group like ISIS in the process I have no problem with it

This is why we should have stayed out of Syria and not supported wither side. I don't want us to arm anyone in the whole situation. God only knows who we will be bombing next week.

Says the headline on Drudge. That's true but an unfair comparison. We shouldn't criticize him for doing something we consider right, and this action so far isn't comparable to invading Iraq.

We should leave that cess pool to rot. Does anyone think this will discourage them long term? Are we going to stay there forever?

Just curious, who is providing on the ground intelligence for these airstrikes? Communicating with the aircraft? Marking targets?

US SOF and Combat Controllers I'd presume

Near U.S. personnel? Aren't we lucky they just happened to be those kind trained and equipped to call in airstrikes?

But he repeated his pledge that no ground combat troops would be returned to Iraq, where the last U.S. forces withdrew at the end of 2011.
Good thing we have civilians capable of coordinating airstrikes. You never know when that skill will come in handy.

It was my understanding that our advisors would not be out in the field.

(rhetorical question)

Didn't Obama move SF guys (500 or so IIRC) into Bahgdad a month or so ago?
