I read this article on republican 'Liberty Kids' who are supposedly at odds with the Tea Party and see this quote:
quote:

Despite personal politics that might seem more in tune with Democrats - world peace, ending the war on drugs and addressing global warming top the list of concerns for many - these millennials say they are more comfortable with Republicans' emphasis on freedom than Democrats' penchant for regulation.

Liberty Kids shake up L.A. Republicans

This seems to be in line with what my vision of the TP was (except for the global warming bit).
Maybe I've gotten behind the curve but I always thought that deregulation and overhaul of the tax system was all the Tea Party was about and not so much the social stuff.

So the Tea Party must have been hijacked, morphed into something else or redefined by the media. Or, perhaps a bit of all the above?

WTF happened?

Sorry, but I can't take any person or group seriously who includes this as part of their platform while keeping a straight face.

There's a reason "world peace" is the typical caricature beauty pageant answer.

The tea party has always been first and foremost, financial political reform (tax and spending reform).

Perhaps their platform is actually in support of Metta World Peace.

The rest is a combination of two things:

1) The media painting them as far-right bible thumpers
2) low information people believing everything the media feeds them

They're still young but I like their general direction on freedom and regulation.

They grasp that it is the old guard cronies and their regulatory schemes that are holding back their creativity, their innovation and their future potential.

Our gov't subsidizes a lot of chaos in the world such as gun running out of Benghazi to Syria.

Yes, but there are also politicians who have tried to latch onto the tea party movement, and then preach social issues. They aren't helping, but they also don't really stand for what the Tea Party does.

I mean hell, look at Palin. Nothing about her proves she is in favor of cutting taxes and spending, besides her talk. Her actions are quite different. However, she is painted as a Tea Party spokesperson (her and the media share blame for that).

"Liberty Kids"? Sounds like another astroturfed attempt to glom off the Tea Party like the "Coffee Party".

Not sure about this, but there is certainly room for a more thoughtful and intellectual Tea Party spin off.

You're not behind the curve. You're just propaganda-resistant.

Well, and self-proclaimed TP types doing weird stuff like advocating for armed confrontation on behalf of Cliven Bundy.

It's not all media or low information people. The lack of structure in the TP means nobody really controls the message.

the "tea party" is the people, not an actual party. Each time I see a lib attack them, because of their own hatred of religion or what ever it is that pisses them off, it truly makes me sad, as they are simply attacking the people and their attempts to get the government off their backs.

Liberty is a winning idea.

Social conservatives need to understand that they want liberty to live as they wish and raise their children as they wish. And perhaps even pursue some social heavy-handed agendas at the state level.

Country club Republicans need to understand that liberty will allow them to keep more of their ill-gotten cash.

Libertarians get it. They will get to smoke dope in peace.

Liberty is the ticket.

Is there ever a proper time to take up arms against a government? If yes, then you simply disagree with their motivations. If no, then you have a more fundamental problem.

Sure. My point isn't about the substance of Bundy, it's about the perception of the TP and why few people outside of the TP accepts that they're just a fiscal responsibility movement.

I think all of the above. They became fat cats after 2010 election cycle and forgot their purpose for existing in the first place.

If you look at pretty much every GOP/TP contested race, the establishment is taking it back. The Tea Party has poor marketing these days and it's showing in the polls.

Fiscal responsibility/government overreach seems to be a pretty good catch all. And it certainly applied, to their minds, for Cliven Bundy.
