Has there ever been two such good players (both O-line) that left one team for such big money and then produced so little as a result of staph infection?

The Bucs agreed to a $3-million injury settlement with OG Carl Nicks, according to salary cap information filed with the league.

It officially ends the disappointing chapter with Nicks, who signed a 5-year, $47.5-million contract as a Saints free agent in 2012 but appeared in only nine games in two seasons.

Nicks and the Bucs announced at the start of training camp that they had mutually agreed to part ways and the Pro Bowl guard said he planned to "step away" from football. Nicks had $6-million in injury guarantees for 2014. But the settlement will pay him between $3-million and $4-million, including workman’s compensation and other considerations that do not affect the Bucs’ salary cap.

The agreement protects the Bucs from any future litigation or grievance filed on behalf of Nicks, who suffered a foot injury in 2012 and contracted MRSA during a subsequent surgery last year that resulted in nerve damage in his left foot.

It is pretty crazy to think how both careers have come to an end. Might just be me but maybe the next O lineman might want to think twice before moving on. Damn voodoo doctor might have put a curse on the OL.

I think Brees makes our O lines look better than they actually are. I mean you need talent (see Charlie Brown) but his quick release and pocket awareness elevates their stats.

First of all, good to see you posting Blues. You know you have an obligation to this board, so no more breaks, you!

I feel sorry for Nicks, MRSA is a pain in the arse and you never really get rid of it. I wondered before the reported nerve damage if he lost his interest in playing or if it was a legit long-term injury.

Nicks was pretty damn good, though. Its a shame to see his career end the way it did. He could have been the best guard of the generation. I thought he was still getting better his last few games here in 2011.

What? No one has an obligation to this board.
