Saw this on the news this morning. For those who fish offshore, is this really a problem or is it scare tactics?

It's been around since at least 1972 per the article. I'm not too concerned.

It's a real thing but it's hardly noticable when fishing. We catch plenty of grouper, who live on the bottom, right in the middle of that red spot.

It's real, there are NO FISH THERE

Eta: all the fish moved out of the dead zone and are now in waters surrounding Venice, La.

I thought the dead zone was generally due south of the river.

Nah man it's actually from West Timbalier to Coon Point. There are literally no fish there.

The dead zones begins at the bottom and goes all the way up to an average of less than three feet.

Much of it less than one foot thick, for some reason the scientist forget to mention this.

It happens every year, it's when the all algae that results from the fertilizer runoff from the river dies, decomposes, and the aerobic microbes breaking it down uses up all the oxygen. It's only in a small part of the water column. Nothing to be concerned about.

Scare tactics? It's a yearly occurrence. I thought this was common knowledge?

im not sure but i think biodiversity is an old, wooden civil war ship.

Why would the network be concerned with the lack of an old old wooden ship?
