About to build a patio cover outside, want to get a framing nailer to speed up the project. Any recommendations? It will get used maybe a few times per year, so nothing outrageous....

From what I can tell, they buy the cheapest ones and throw them away when they break. It seems like every jobsite has a couple of empty boxes.

I bought the Campbell Hausfield set from Lowes about 5 years ago.I bought it to build a wood fence and its not fancy but it does the job.The set had a framing gun, finishing gun and 2 brad nailers.I think I spent about 125 on it.I still have them and used the framing gun last week to build a deer stand.Keep them oiled up.

That is kind of my inclination due to not using it much....

Anyone have thoughts on clipped head vs round?

I have a senco which has been solid over the years. It's about 7 years old. I used it often when I bought it. Now it only gets used a few times a year these days.

My suggestion is to go check out a pawn shop. My first framing gun was a porter cable I bought for about $100 and it lasted a several years until I let someone borrow it.

you can fit more nails in the clipped head gun. I have a full head nailer, but there really isn't much a difference. source

Same here paid like $100 at a black Friday deal. Nice storage case. Harbor freight has the 21 degree framing nails cheap but you got to buy a box of 2000. Want to buy some nails?

Just go rent a Senco if you're not gonna use it much.
