Hollywood keeps churning out all of these boring and bland superhero movies every year and of course the public eats it up.

But for the serious film lovers like myself out there, we hate these movies and what they stand for. Lets get some originality back on the big screen!

It really sucks when every theater in my state has the same boring action movies but its so difficult to find a theater showing intelligent films like Only Lovers Left Alive and Under the Skin.

I've been saying that since forever. They've basically killed off the action movie genre.

No one cares what you think. Don't watch them if you don't like them.

Nah...the desire to shoehorn action movies into the PG-13 rating has killed off action movies. Think of all the great action flicks from the 80's that were R, but would be PG-13 now because they toned it down.

Hell...even the retread Expendables franchise is a PG-13.

Look at me everyone! I'm a troll trying to get a rise out of people by acting like a sophisticated, discriminating movie patron. La Te Da.

I will agree with you that I wish Hollywood created more original content, not based on prior works.

But i don't know if there ever really was a time when Hollywood catered to the "serious" film lover.

Hollywood wants to appeal to the average audience member, not the elite.

I sympathize with you, but I fear that you may be eternally frustrated.

Yeah, if I were running a studio I would for certain make your fricking movie over a superhero one.
I'd put out a god damned superhero movie every week and never look back.

I think it's pretty cool the way these Marvel movies are coming and the way they are connected. They definitely did it right.

That's because you value money over everything else. The problem with the world today is the profit over quality mindset. As long as it makes money it doesn't matter if its complete crap. Same reason why most mainstream music is horrible too and filled with the Justin Biebers of the world.

Marvel's last two efforts have elevated the genre in my opinion. But I sorta of agree that as a whole the genre has become generic and cliche-ridden - same plot devices, same rehashed jokes, same action beats, etc.

Not much different than cliche-filled romcoms that people bash.

I think you've confused the movie BUSINESS with putting on plays at your house.

Movies exist to draw a crowd to sell tickets to. TV shows exists to draw a crowd to either sell the network to (HBO) or sell advertising on.

You want art for art's sake? Go make some. But be sure to find yourself a benefactor because making art with absolutely no interest in it making any money costs, well...money.

You can have a great business and not dumb yourself down for the masses. See Criterion Collection.

this isn't really true from a certain point of view. Movie theater viewership has been flat for about 10 years. This is why prices have gone up for tickets and popcorn. They are squeezing every drop they can out of the people who go to movies.
