Drafting #1 in standard scoring 10 man league

I've been fricked with running backs before. McCoy back when he was hurt all year. Jamal Charles when he tore his acl. I drafted Ray rice last year. I just don't know if I want to go running back again. I'm strongly considering going Brees or Manning but I also feel like there are a lot of quality qb's that could be taken in the 4th and 5th rounds. What do you guys think I should do? What would you do?
eta: 1 flex, 2rb 2 wr 1QB 1 TE

Go with the RB, especially at #1. I can almost guarantee you won't win your league if you go Brees, Manning first. You're basically setting yourself back a round.
Anyways go with AP or McCoy and be on your merry way. You'll/They'll be fine.

I want to pull the trigger on AP. But I feel like Charles and McCoy have strong cases as well.

AP
apart from 2011, i doubt anyone's ever complained about drafting him #1 overall. And he still gave you 12 great games in 2011 before he got hurt.

If you are scared of them, then go All Day.
Another option is to draft Charles and trade him to the Calvin Johnson owner. Calvin + RB3 = Charles could work if you discuss this beforehand and offer it to anyone.

go with RB. Im hoping I get the 10th pick in my drafts so i can draft back to back stud RBs. you can get decent WRs anywhere. RBs are hard to come by later on. i lost my league last year because of AP's injury and i had a bunch of scrubs to replace him. Well that and Jamaal dropped 65 on me

So you advocate taking a QB number one overall? Much less the first round?

advocate? no
I've seen a fair share of teams win with RD 1 QBs, though

Guy that won my league last year drafted Peyton in the first

I don't know. I feel like there are decent RB's to take in the 2nd/3rd rounds and I know I can't draft bree or manning at 20/21. They will be gone by then. I'll probably go McCoy or AP

Yep. Peyton had 555 fantasy points last year. I know he prolly won't throw a double nickel again, but 50 ain't out of the question. Hit on some other picks paired with Peyton, you're right there.

Megantron is the answer.

I feel like a top 10 running back could fall to 20 easily. and I could go Pmanning, Top10 rb, Top10 WR.

Ok, and that was a record-setting, anomaly of a year. And like you said you have to hit on some later picks to be in contention. Why make yourself gamble like that? What if you DONT hit on your later picks, then your screwed. People drafting a QB at #1 and winning are the anomaly, not the other way around. It definitely hamstrings you to take one that early.
Would you rather have Peyton/ CJ?K OR McCoy/Stafford?
That's a fairly easy decision for me. Why put all the guesswork into you strategy by taking a QB that early? Seems unnecessary. My point being is you're set up better, and IMHO put at an advantage by getting a stud RB over a QB in round 1, especially #1 overall.

I've already decided RB has to be taken. Who should I take and what do you guys think of Aaron Rogers at 21, or Stafford at 40?

Or you could have TWO top 10 RBs, a top 10 WR, and STILL have a top 5 QB.
Y'all read this by my co-worker. Think it'll help my stance.

In a standard league its between AP and McCoy IMO. If you're scared and wanna play it safe, you can't go wrong with AP. If you want a guy who has the potential to not only finish as the number 1 RB, but number 1 overall player, go McCoy.
As far as QB goes I think you go Stafford at 40. Load up on better value at other positions. As the link above shows, the disparity between QBs that close is almost minimal to non-existent

this implies AP doesn't have that ability which is wrong.
