I have watched EVERY single episode of Naked and Afraid and I and beginning to slowly turn the page with this show.

A few (annoying) observations

1) How come I never see a large bonfire? It's always a small little smoke fire. If I am freezing my arse off, I am going to make a big arse fire. In addition, I would be wanting body heat from my partner - Have never seen this happen once on the show.

2) How come they never get large food? Of course the camera men see large animals and food but the couple does not?

3) How come not one single couple has never made some type of protective covering (like shoes) for their feet? If I am walking through that shite, I am at least going to get layers of leaves and somehow attach it to my feet.

4) How is it that their teeth are still white at the end of the 21 day journey? 21 days of eating shite and not being able to brush your teeth for 21 days would definitely cause some tooth decay/tarter build up

I have several other question marks/red flags about this show. I am starting to notice a lot of things where I think the whole show is bullshite.

It reminds me a lot of Bar Rescue - Just complete fake and bullshite

They did make shoes on one episode. Not all terrain requires it.

There's a kind of plant you rub on your teeth to clean then

ETA: the girl on there now is fine as hell!

No you haven't.

Because

There was one a few weeks ago where the chick wanted to cuddle, but the guy refused because he wouldn't do that to his wife. As far as the fire issue it's probably a resource rationing decision. You have to spend so much time gathering dry firewood (not always easy) that you would rather have a continuous lasting fire than go through everything for a couple hours of warmth.

2) How come they never get large food? Of course the camera men see large animals and food but the couple does not?

I've wondered this a couple times, but it's not all that easy to kill bigger game when the only weapon you have is a machete. Yeah, they make sharpened spears, but you still have to get super close and strike with enough force and accuracy without having other food to give you that necessary energy. So usually the best you'll get is slow moving or small animals that you could get with your hands.

3) How come not one single couple has never made some type of protective covering (like shoes) for their feet? If I am walking through that shite, I am at least going to get layers of leaves and somehow attach it to my feet.

Several couples have done this on multiple shows including the pilot. Generally it's big leaves that they have to remake everyday, but in a couple of the African episodes they've made them out of bark.

I'll give you that one, but I don't think it'd affect my enjoyment of the show if they were allowed to brush their teeth every couple days.

Pretty much this.

Last nights episode had a road close to camp.

They did cuddle for warmth.

I don't believe the temps given...98 during the day and 50's at night in the tropics? seems impossible.

I do'nt understand the fire thing.
Build a big arse fire at first. You have energy early on. Gather as much wood as possible.
Once you get a big arse fire going with a really hot coal bed, you can put some wetter wood on it and it will boil the water out of it in now time.

The thing i don't get is you have all day to do things. Wake up and go hunting for a few hours.
Get back to camp and improve your shelter, gather firewood, and rest. go hunting again in the afternoon. sleep, or attempt to sleep.

i know they get tired and it's hard to work, but i just don't see improvements made or efforts to get food. Compressing 21 days into 43 minutes helps with that though.
Just seems like all day everyday you would be hunting or gathering firewood.

Not just that, the dude is usually some former military type or other tough guy who tries to act badass and know it all and ends up being useless while the chick saves them, all the while patiently putting up with the guy.

At least some of the episodes this season have been different, but the first season seemed like every one was like that.

Last nights episode the chick was nothing but a cancer. Yeah the dude was a bit of a jersey shore type and yes he struggled to make fire but he stuck with it and finally got a fire going. People keep saying they should make bigger fires but you have rain and shyt to deal with. It's easier to manage a small fire and keep it protected from the elements and keep it going. A big arse fire would be impossible to keep going.

Big fire requires a lot of wood, maintaining a big fire requires a ton of work. So it's easier to build a smaller one and just sleep close to it.
I've seen a pig (I think?) and a turkey. Not easy to take large game with a spear.
I've seen shoes made a few times.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — How do you prepare to be a survivalist-in-the-buff on "Naked and Afraid"?

One way: You start at the bottom and work up.

"I walked around barefoot for months," said Dani Julien, who then spent 21 days undressed in the wilderness on the popular Discovery Channel reality show.

Julien and three fellow self-described survival experts appeared, fully clad, at a panel on Wednesday at the summer TV critics' tour.
Quickly enough, the question arose: Why?
"This is who we are," replied Jeff Zausch. "This is what we're made of. We were made to push the limits of what's humanly possible."

But why (apart from the fact that they're attractive, telegenic young people) the nudity?
Self-discovery, according to Eva Rupert. "It's only when you're pulled down to the rawest, most central core of your existence that you know who you really are," she said.

"It adds to the difficulty level of the accomplishment," added Justin Bullard.
But the nudity isn't supposed to be racy, the producers insisted.

"We never meant for this to be an exploitative show," said executive producer David Garfinkle. "This is a family show."

The producers disclosed that the very title of the show is inspired by a phrase from, of all things, the Bible.

Of course, Discovery is a basic cable network, so camera angles are strategic and pixilation hides what clothes otherwise would.

Asked his reaction to the selective pixilation imposed on his own naked form in the show, Bullard voiced one complaint.

"They could have made the blur-spot bigger," he joked.

I wish, when they show the item they brought, the guy would pull out a sandwich and eat it right there. I bet the girl would leave right then.

Useually they find a water source and I would think they bathe and even scrub their teeth with it.

Also they aren't eating much of anything to get stuck in their teeth.

WHat else do they have to do out there? hunt and gather wood, that's all there is to do all day.
i think its a lot more wok to maintain a small fire all night. someone has to stay awake to watch it.
I'm not talking about keeping a big fire all the time. Make a big fire first so you have an enormous and hot coal bed. Once you get a large hot coal bed, you can put anything on it and it will burn, and it can rain on it as well and it will most likely stay hot, unless its a ridiculous downpour for hours, so put some kind of high safe cover over it to limit the rain on it.

I remember camping in Aspen, all we had was a hand held ax, between two guys chopping and collecting, we had a big fire going for hours that night, was still hot when we woke up 7 hours later. We had enough wood to last us 2 more days easily. We took the Survivorman saying "when you think you have enough wood, go get 4x more" a little too serious i guess. It took us no more than an hour to collect all that wood.

I'm assuming you were well fed and had a lot of energy. It's all about conserving energy and not burning unnecessary calories.

He also mentioned having an ax. The knifes on the show are useful but you aren't going logging with those items.

You have energy when you first get there for at least 3-4 days, assuming you have water, to get a lot of work done.

And when i said ax, i don't mean a big arse ax. I'm talking about the same kind of hand held ax you see on the show sometimes, same size as a machete almost, but shorter.

No one's cutting trees down. at least nothing bigger than 4-5 inches wide. It's a jungle, there's wood everywhere, and most likely everywhere on the ground. Once you get a good coal bed going, it doesn't matter what kind of wood you put on the fire, it will burn.
