He was sent back to AAA. The process going forward is for the red sox to see who can pitch in the big leagues. Webster starter gets another start Friday. He looked bad in 2 big league starts this year. Sox have other prospects to look at. Ranaudo looks better than the res of their guys in aa and aaa. He will be recalled in ten days, could be the # 5 starter next season.

It's a process, but he definitely looked good enough the other night to get another shot this year. Probably just nerves because his overall stats don't reflect it, but he's got to cut down on the walks and stop falling behind so many hitters in the bigs.

He will be back up again this season. Definitely when they expand the rosters and maybe before then.

He will be back in ten days. That is the length of time he has to stay in minors.

Could possibly have an incentive clause about time up or # of starts ? Why pay that when you don't have to.

I'd take Owens and Barnes over him, especially Owens.

I was actually at the game in Boston, and while I congratulate Ranuado on the win, he seems to still have some of the same problems he had at LSU. Despite his size, he consistently only throws about 91 to 92. He struggles with control in terms of his curve and change. He also has a tendency to be up in the zone. He was actually hit very hard, but a lot of the balls were right at people. I hope the guy makes it, but he has a ways to go to pitch every day in the majors. I do wish him good luck.

Many might think you're being a "negatiger", but I agree with you. He was 91-94 and left many pitches up in the zone. But how much of that was due to nerves? Idk. He definitely got hit hard and was often lucky.

He did get lucky, but Ranaudo did not have a poor performance by any stretch in my opinion. He showed a lot of poise getting out of jams.

Line drive out for a double play and balls crushed to the wall... that's poise?

It was not my intention to be negative. I hope the guy makes it big. I am sure that nerves did play a part. He still has a lot of improving to do. He needs to strengthen his arm and get his fastball up to at least 95; even if he can do that he needs more pitches and better control.

Ranaudo showed a lively, well commanded fastball that he used to work both sides of the plate. With a little development of his off speed offerings, plus the composure he clearly has, he could become a useful starter in the not too distant future.

Ranaudo was 12-4 with a 2.41 ERA in 21 starts at Pawtucket, where in his last 17? innings (three starts) he had allowed only two runs. He had also allowed one or no runs in five of his last six starts. That's nothing to sneeze at.

90-93 up in the zone won't cut it for ranaudo in the bigs

Has he lost some velocity? I thought he was throwing harder than that in the past.

I've heard numerous times that even though he isn't mid to upper 90's, the plane he creates with his height as well as his release point due to his length, causes his fb to be much more effective
