Would you put him in the HOF?

6 year peak

85-39
3 Cy Youngs
1 Cy young runner up
2.36 ERA
159 ERA+

His ERA+ is 3rd all time through age 26 with at least 800 innings

Yes. It would grow the legend even more.

He would basically be Sandy Koufax 2.0 at this point.

Don't you have to play 10 years to be eligible?

Baseball HOF voters are pretty dickish/snobbish.

If he put up comparable numbers in the NFL or NBA, I think he definitely gets in. Not so sure with baseball.

In this scenario, is Kershaw retiring due to an injury?

Koufax had 5 dominating seasons winning 3 CY Youngs and finishing 2nd in MVP twice in a 12 year career...he was 26 when he started his run after all....

Just re-checked that, and I was correct.

What if he wins the CYA this year, then instead of retiring, goes .500 with a 5.00 ERA for the next ten years?

I hate to reward a guy with a short peak for retiring, while punishing another with the same peak who sticks around.

He's definitely got a great shot at the HOF, though.

Koufax did his damage in 5 seasons... what is the difference when I think Kershaw is doing it better in modern times????

Hell before 62 Koufax was a .500 pitcher with almost a 3.50 ERA

Didn't realize that.

Koufax was the best pitcher in the game when he retired, though.

Kershaw would be best pitcher in the game if he retired

I was referring to what if he was mediocre the rest of his career. Sorry.

He's done enough in your eyes then? Would you vote for him even if he was a mediocre pitcher the rest of his career?

What's dumb about it? There was a guy who went 3-3 hitting, had a back injury, and never played again. You want to elect him to the Hall?
