I watched this last night and it wasn't bad. Probably helped that Keanu Reeves wasn't the focus of the movie and the Japanese lore was well done.

I know it tanked at the box office but I enjoyed it.

Thoughts?

I liked it enough. But I like Samurai Films and Keanu, so my opinion is probably slanted a bit.

I liked it ok. Wasnt the horrible POS everyone says it is. Still not sure why it was so hated.

I personally think that Keanu Reeves would have been killed in 5 seconds if he was living in 18th Century Japan. It's almost as ridiculous to me as Will Smith in Wild Wild West.

If Tom Cruise can survive, so can Keanu.

I didn't think it was terrible but it was a mess of a movie. Had no idea what it was trying to do plot or character wise.

Look dude, I liked it okay. I feel like I'm coming out of the closet by admitting it. Not great, but watch worthy.

It was a fine movie, but when the haters get on a roll they are hard to contain.

The difference between 18th and 19th century Japan is incredibly different. Tom Cruise would have been killed then for sure as well.

Not to be dick, but 47 Ronin is a damn fantasy movie, even if it is based on history.

I watched this yesterday. I thought it was okay. My beef was I hated seeing all of the prominent Japanese actors in it all speaking Engrish. I would've rather read subtitles and them speaking their native language. I get it though, Americans are too stupid to read a movie.

The raid on the wedding up until the cover was blown I thought was a really cool scene.

Watched it last night. One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. Complete pile of dog shite. The actual people this movie is "honoring" should haunt all of those involved.

ETA: I wasn't aware of the hate this movie got on this board (although I'm not shocked since it was terrible), so my opinion is not influenced in any way by that.

I much prefer subtitles. Gives it a more realistic feel.

I haven't watched it yet because I'm still mad that they didn't use the original legend of the 47 Ronin. This is a case of the real story being way more interesting.

I never understood this stance. Sure, I would prefer to not read subtitles but it also wouldn't stop me from watching a movie that had them.

There's about a billion movies made that are closer to the real story. Swords of Vengeance is a good one
